The Israelites Corrupting Themselves by Making a Golden Calf as a god |
Exodus 32:1-35 The Second Book of Moses Called Exodus |
When the people [of Israel] saw that Moses had delayed to come down out of the [mountain, they] gathered together to Aaron & said to him, Make us gods which shall go before us, [because] we [don’t know] what [has] become of Moses, the man [who] brought us up out of the land of Egypt. |
And Aaron said to them, Break off the golden earrings in the ears of your wives, your sons & your daughters & bring them to me. They [broke] off the golden earrings which were in their ears & brought them to Aaron. [Aaron] received the [earrings from them] & fashioned it with an [carving] tool & after he had made a [molded] calf. And they said, These [are] your gods, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt. |
[Psalm 106:19-22 They made a calf in Horeb [a.k.a. Sinai] & worshiped the [molded] image. [By this,] they changed their glory into the [resemblance] of an ox that eats grass. They [forgot] their God, their Savior, [Who] had done great things in Egypt. Wondrous [miracles] in the land of Ham & [awesome] things by the Red Sea.] |
When Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it [the false god, calf.] Aaron made a proclamation & said, Tomorrow is a feast to the Lord. [The Israelites] rose early [the next day] & offered burnt offerings & brought peace offerings & the people sat down to eat & drink & rose up to play. |
The Lord [God] said to Moses, Go, get down, for your people, which you brought out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves. They have quickly turned [away] from the way which I commanded them & have made [themselves] a [molded] calf & have worshiped it & sacrificed [to it] & said, These are your gods, O Israel, [that] brought you out of the land of Egypt. |
The Lord said to Moses, I have seen this people & behold, [it’s] a stiff-necked [stubborn] people. Therefore, let Me alone, [so] that My anger may [grow] hot against them & consume them. I will make of you a great nation. |
Moses [pleaded with] the Lord, his God & [asked] Him, Lord, why does your [anger grow] hot against your people, which you have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power & a mighty hand? [Why] should the Egyptians speak & say, He brought [the Israelites] out for mischief, to slay them in the mountains, to consume them from the face of the earth? |
Turn from Your fierce [anger & abandon] this [harm] against Your people. Remember Abraham, Isaac & Israel, Your servants to whom You, Yourself swore & said, I will multiply your [descendants like] the stars of heaven & all this land, I have spoken of, I will give to your [descendants to] inherit forever. |
The Lord [withdrew] from the [harm] He thought do to His people. Moses turned & went down the [mountain] with the 2 [tablets] of the Testimony in his [hands.] The [tablets] were written on both sides. On 1 side & the other they were written [on.] And the [tablets] were the work of God & the writing was the writing of God, [engraved] upon the [tablets.] |
When Joshua heard the noise of the people [of Israel shouting,] he [told] Moses, There is a noise of war in the camp. And [Joshua] said, It's not the voice of [those who shout for victory,] neither is it the voice of [those] overcome [who] cry [out:] but I hear the [voices of those who] sing. |
It [happened,] as soon as he came [near] the camp, [Moses] saw the [gold] calf & the dancing & Moses’ anger [grew] hot & he cast the [tablets] out of his hands & broke them at the [foot] of the [mountain.] |
[Then, Moses] took the [gold] calf they had made & burned it in the fire & ground it to powder & he [scattered] it on the water & made the children of Israel drink it. Moses said to Aaron, What did this people do to you that you have brought [this large] sin on them? |
Aaron said, [Don’t] let [your] anger [grow] hot. You know your people & they are set on [doing] mischief. For they said to me, Make us gods, which shall go before us, [because] we [don’t know] what [has] become of Moses, the man [who] brought us up out of the land of Egypt. |
And I said to them, [Whoever] has any gold, [should] break it off. So they gave it [to] me & I cast it [the gold] into the fire & [this] calf came out. When Moses saw the people were naked; (for Aaron had [allowed] them [to be] naked, to their shame among their enemies.) |
Then, Moses stood in the [entrance] gate of the camp & said, [Whoever] is on the Lord’s side- come to me. All the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him. And [Moses] said to them, The Lord God of Israel says [this,] Every man put his sword by his side & go in & out from gate to gate throughout the camp and let every man [kill] his brother, companion & his neighbor. [Jeremiah 1:16 And I will utter My judgments against them, [about] all their wickedness, [those who] have [abandoned] Me & have burned incense to other gods & worshiped the works [made] of their own hands.] |
The children [people] of Levi did according to the word of Moses & about 3,000 men fell that day. [Then,] Moses said, Consecrate yourselves & your sons & brothers, so [the Lord] may [give] you a blessing this day. |
It [happened the next day,] that Moses said to the people, You have committed a [large] sin & now I will go up to the Lord; [perhaps] I [can] make an atonement for your sin. [When] Moses returned to the Lord, [he] said, Oh, this people have [committed a large] sin & have made for them gods of gold. |
Yet now, if You will forgive their [sins]-, but if not, blot me out of Your book You have written. The Lord said to Moses, [Whoever] has sinned against Me, I will blot Him out of My book. |
[Revelation 3:5 He [who] overcomes, the same shall be clothed in white [clothing] & I won't blot out his name out of the Book of Life, but I will confess his name before My Father & before His Angels.] |
Therefore, go now & lead [the Israelites] to the place I have spoken to you. [Look,] My Angel shall go before you. [But on] the day when I visit, I will [punish] them. The Lord plagued the people, because [of] the calf that Aaron made. |
[Nehemiah 9:18-19 {Yet,] when they had made [themselves] a [molded] calf & said, This is your [god] that brought you up out of Egypt & had [formed] great [provoking sins.] Yet, You in Your [many] mercies, [didn't abandon] them in the wilderness. The pillar of the cloud [didn't] depart from them by day, to lead them in the [road;] neither [did] the fire by night [stop from showing] them light & the [path] they should go.] |
