About the Author of the Blogsite, Not the Author of the Bible: I was uncertain of how to accomplish this, mindful of Revelation 22:18-19, which says that nobody is to add to, or to take away from what was written in the Bible. After lots of prayerful contemplation, the Lord had it on my heart that I’m not to change the meaning of what is written in the Bible. He has also shown ways to add to people’s understating of that meaning, without altering the meaning, by putting that info within [brackets]. This is primarily accomplished with the KJV Bible and lots of prayers, but at times, BibleGateway.com, Biblehub.com, NIV Bible, Webster Dictionary, and other internet resources, as needed. About Understanding the Bible:

Understanding the Bible: After reading Isaiah 28:10 many times over the years and not totally understanding it, it recently became apparent to me that the Lord God has this passage as the means for understanding the Bible. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little. Isaiah 28:10 KJV. Being prayerful about this passage, and looking up 'precept' in the Webster's Dictionary, it gave this passage a whole new meaning, once 'commandment' is substituted for 'precept'. Within brackets are additional words the Lord had on my heart to aid in understanding the meaning. For commandment must be [built up] upon commandment; commandment upon commandment; line upon line, line upon line; [developing understanding] here a little, and there a little.

The Table Format:

The Table Format: I was overwhelmed with how to explain the process for determining if someone had leprosy in Leviticus 13, which seemed very complicated. After praying, "Lord, if this is difficult for me to understand after reading it many times, how can this be explained to others?" The thought the Lord God had on my heart was for me to put it into a vertical chart to visually see the process. This made it much easier for me to follow the progression. After doing so, I prayed, "Lord, how can this be conveyed to readers, so that they can understand this process?" The thought the Lord God had on my heart was to put it within the lines of a table. Being a stiff-necked, stubborn person, as it's often called in the Bible, I prayed, asking the Lord God if He's sure that's really what He wanted me to do? I reluctantly put Leviticus 13 into a table format. When I read this difficult leprosy process within a table format, it suddenly became easier for me to understand. That's because it builds line upon line, as explained in the Understanding the Bible section. Shortly after that, the Lord God had it on my heart, to put all of The Books of the Bible in Smaller Chunks within a table format, to aid in understanding, line upon line.

The Lord Tells Moses to Take a Census of All the Congregation of Israel

Numbers 1:1-54   The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

These were chosen from the congregation [& were leaders of their father’s tribes, heads of the divisions] in Israel. Then, Moses & Aaron took these men [designated] by name & they assembled all the congregation together on the 1st day of the 2nd month & [below]

they [all] declared their [ancestry] by their generations,  by their families, by their [father’s] houses, [men] 20 years old & [older who] were able to go to war & were recorded 1 by 1]. As the Lord commanded Moses, he numbered & [recorded] them in the Wilderness of Sinai.

Of the children [descendants] of the tribe of Ephraim by their generations, by their family, by their [father’s] houses, every male 20 years old & [older] able to go to war were: 40,500.

Of the children [descendants] of the tribe of Manasseh by their generations, by their family, by their [father’s] houses, every male 20 years old & [older] able to go to war were: 32,200.

Of the children [descendants] of the tribe of Benjamin by their generations, by their family, by their [father’s] houses, every male 20 years old & [older] able to go to war were: 35,400.

Of the children [descendants] of the tribe of Dan by their generations, by their family, by their [father’s] houses, every male 20 years old & [older] able to go to war were: 62,700.

[All these] were [counted by] Moses, Aaron & the [leaders] of Israel, 12 men, each from his [father’s tribe]. All who were [counted] of the children [people] of Israel by their generations, by their family, by their [father’s] houses, every male 20 years old & [older] able to go to war were: 603,550.

But the Levites of their [father’s tribes] were not [counted], for the Lord had spoken to Moses, saying, You shall not [count] the tribe of Levi, [nor include them in the census total] of the children [people] of Israel.

But you shall appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of Testimony & over all the vessels & the things that belong to it. They shall [carry] the tabernacle & all the vessels [of it]. They shall [take care of it] & [camp around the tabernacle, protecting it].

When the tabernacle [moves] forward, the Levites shall take it down & when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites will set it up. [Any] stranger [who] comes [near] shall be put to death.

The children [people] of Israel shall [each] pitch their tent [with] his own camp & [banner] throughout their [armies].

But the Levites shall [camp around] the tabernacle of Testimony, [so] there [isn’t any] wrath upon the congregation of the children [people] of Israel & the Levites are [in charge] of the tabernacle of Testimony.

The children [people] of Israel, did according to all that the Lord commanded Moses.

On the west side [those] of the standard of the camp of Ephraim, [which also includes the families of Manasseh & Benjamin] shall camp according to their [armies]. Elishama [Ammihud’s] son shall be the captain of the [family] of Ephraim. [Those  who were counted] of [Ephraim’s army] were 40,500.

On the north side, [those] of the standard of the camp of Dan, [which also includes the families of Asher & Naphtali] shall camp according to their [armies]. Ahiezer [Ammishaddai’s] son shall be the captain of the [family] of Dan. [Those  who were counted] of [Dan’s army] were 62,700.

Those who [camp] by [Dan] shall be the [family] of Asher. Pagiel [Ocran’s] son shall be the captain. [Those who were counted] of [Asher’s army] were 41,500.

Then the [family] of Naphtali. Ahira [Enan’s] son shall be the captain of the [family] of Naphtali. [Those who were counted] of [Naphtali’s army] were 53,400. All [who] were [assigned to] the camp of Dan [& counted totaled] 157,600. [They shall break camp & go out last].

These are those [who] were [counted] of the [people] of Israel by their [father’s houses]. All those who were counted throughout their armies were 603,550. But the Levites [weren’t counted] among the [people] of Israel; as the Lord commanded Moses.

The children [people] of Israel did according to all the Lord commanded Moses: so they [camped] by their standards & they set forward, everyone [according to] their families & the house of their fathers.

Numbering the Levites and Their Jobs

Numbers 3:1-51                      The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

These are the generations of Aaron & Moses when the Lord spoke with Moses on Mount Sinai. These are the names of [Aaron’s] sons [who] were anointed as priests & consecrated to minister in the priest’s office: Nadab the firstborn, Abihu, Eleazar & Ithamar.

Nadab & Abihu died before the Lord, when they offered strange fire before the Lord [that wasn’t of the holy fire of the altar], in the Wilderness of Sinai. They had no children. [So] Eleazar & Ithamar ministered in the priest’s office in their father [Aaron’s] sight.

The Lord [spoke] to Moses & said, Bring the tribe of Levi near & present them before Aaron, the priest, [so] they may minister to him. They shall [assist] him & [perform the duties of] Aaron & [duties for] the whole congregation & do the service of the tabernacle.

They shall [also care for] the instruments [furnishings] of the tabernacle of the congregation & do the service [in] the tabernacle [on behalf of the Israelites]. You shall [totally] give the Levites to Aaron & his sons [from] the children [people] of Israel [to assist them].

You shall appoint Aaron & his sons to [serve] in the priest’s office & any stranger [who] comes near [the sanctuary] is to be put to death. The Lord [spoke] to Moses, saying, I have taken the Levites from among the [Israelites in place of] the firstborn [sons of the Israelites].

Therefore, the Levites shall be Mine, [because of] the day I [the Lord God struck] all the firstborn in the land of Egypt & I [consecrated to Myself] all the firstborn in Israel, [of] both man & beast. They shall be Mine. I am the Lord.

The Lord [spoke] to Moses in the Wilderness of Sinai, saying, Number [count] the children [people] of Levi, [according] to their [father’s houses, by [families]. [Count] every male 1 year old & [older]. Moses [counted] them as he was commanded, according to the word of the Lord.

[Levi’s] sons were named; Gershon, Kohath & Merari. The names of [Gershon’s] sons by their families [were]: Libni & Shimei. [Kohath’s] sons by their families; Amram, Izehar, Hebron & Uzziel. [Merari’s] sons by their families; Mahli & Mushi. These are the families of the Levites according to their [father’s] house.

Of Gershon [were the families of:] Libnites & Shimites, the families of the Gershonites & their males 1 month & [older] of [those counted] were 7,500. The families of the Gershonites shall [camp] behind the tabernacle westward & Eliasaph [Lael’s] son shall be [their] chief.

[Gershon’s] sons are [in] charge [of] the tabernacle, tent & [its] covering & hanging [curtains] for the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, the [decorative] hangings [for] the court & the door of the court by the tabernacle & around the altar, the cords [ropes] of it & all [related to it].

Of Kohath [were the families of:] the Amramites, Izeharites, Hebronites & the Uzzielites, the families of the Kohathites & their males 1 month & [older] of [those counted] were 8,600, [taking care of] the sanctuary.

The families of the Kohathies shall [camp] on the south side of the tabernacle & Elizaphan [Uzziel’s] son, shall be [their] chief. [They are in] charge [of the:] Ark, the table, candlestick, altars, vessels [articles] of the sanctuary [used to] minister, the [hangings] & all the service [of it].

Eleazar [Aaron’s] son, the priest, shall be chief [administrator] over [all] the chief Levites & have the oversight of [those in] charge of the sanctuary. Of Merari [were the families of:] Mahlites & Mushites & the families of the Merari & their males 1 month & [older] of [those counted] were 6,200.

Zuriel [Abihail’s] son shall be chief of the families of Merari & they shall [camp on] the north [side] of the tabernacle. [Merari’s] sons [are in] charge [of:] the boards, bars, pillars, [& pillars around the court], sockets, pins & cords [to set up/take down the tabernacle] & all the vessels [furniture] [of it] & all [that relates to it].

Moses & Aaron & his  sons shall [camp] before the tabernacle of the congregation on the east [side]. [They are in] charge of the sanctuary, the children [people] of Israel & [any] stranger [who come near the sanctuary who] shall be put to death.

Moses & Aaron [counted], at the Lord’s [command] all the male Levites 1 month & [older] throughout their families [which totaled:] 22,000. The Lord said to Moses, [Count] all the firstborn males of the [people] of Israel 1 month & [older] & [record] the number of their names.

(I am the Lord.) You shall take the Levites for Me instead of all the firstborn [of] the [people] of Israel. [Take] the cattle of the Levites instead of all the [firstborn] cattle of the [people] of Israel.

Moses [counted] all the firstborn males [of] the [people] of Israel 1 month & [older], as the Lord commanded him & there were 22,273. The Lord [spoke] to Moses, saying, Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn [of] the [people] of Israel & the cattle of the Levites instead of their cattle. The Levites shall be Mine. I am the Lord.

For those [who] are to be redeemed of the 273 of the first born Israelites [22,273-22,200=273] which [exceeds] the [amount] of Levites, you shall take 5 shekels for [each person] according to the shekel of the sanctuary: (the shekel is 20 gerahs).

You shall give the money for [redeeming the extra 273 Israelites] to Aaron & his sons. Moses took the redemption money of the [273 who] exceeded the [amount of] Levites.

[Moses collected] 1,365 shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, of the [273] firstborn of the [people] of Israel. Moses gave the money of [those] redeemed to Aaron & his sons, according to the word of the Lord, as the Lord commanded Moses.

Assigning the Duties to the 3 Families of Levites & Counting Them

Numbers 4:1-49                  The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

The Lord [spoke] to Moses & Aaron, saying, Take [& record] the [total] of [Kohath’s] sons from among the sons of Levi, [by] their families, by their [father’s houses], from 30 to 50 years old [who] enter the [ministry] to do the work of the tabernacle of the congregation. This shall be the [work] of [Kohath’s] sons in the tabernacle of the congregation [related to] the most holy things. When the camp sets [out], Aaron & his sons shall come & take down the covering veil & cover the Ark of theTestimony with it. [Then] they shall cover [it] with badger’s skins & shall spread over it a cloth [totally] of blue & put in the [poles to carry it]. Upon the table of [showbread], they shall spread a blue cloth & put dishes, spoons & bowls & [their covers]. The bread shall be on [the table continually]. They shall spread a scarlet cloth [over them] & cover [that] with badger’s skins & put in the [poles to carry it]. They shall take a blue cloth and cover the candlestick of light & [its:] lamps, tongs, snuffdishes & all the oil vessels & [things used] to minister [with it] & put all [related items] within a covering of badger’s skins & put it upon a [carrying] bar. They shall spread a blue cloth upon the golden altar. It shall; be put within a covering of  badger’s skins & [poles to carry it] shall be put in. They shall take all the instruments [articles used] for ministering in the sanctuary & put them in a blue cloth & cover them with badger’s skins & put them on a [carrying] bar. They shall take away the ashes from the [bronze] altar & spread a purple cloth on it. They shall put on it all the vessels [utensils] used to minister [at the altar]: the censers, flesh hooks, shovels, [bowls], basins, & all the vessels of the altar. They shall spread a covering of badger’s skins on it & put  [poles to carry it]. When Aaron & his sons have ended [covering all the things of] the sanctuary, as the camp is set to [go] forward, [Kohath’s] sons shall come to [carry these]. But they shall not touch any holy things, lest they die. These things are the [responsibility] of [Kohath’s] in the tabernacle of the congregation. The office of Eleazar [Aaron’s] son, the priest [pertains to] the oil for the light, the sweet incense, the daily [meat/grain] offering, the anointing oil & the oversight of all the tabernacle, the sanctuary & all the vessels [that are in it]. The Lord [spoke] to Moses & to Aaron, saying, [Don’t] cut off the tribe of Kohathite families from among the Levites. Do this, [so] they may live & not die, when they approach the Most Holy Things: Aaron & his sons shall go in & appoint [to each person] his [work] & [responsibility]. But they shall not go in to see when the holy things are covered, lest they die.

The Lord [spoke] to Moses, saying, Take also the [total number] of [Gershon’s] sons, [by] their families, by their [father’s houses], from 30 to 50 years old [who] enter the [ministry] to do the work of the tabernacle of the congregation. The service of the [Gershonites], they shall [carry the:] curtains, the tabernacle of the congregation, [its] covering, the covering of badger’s skins that is above, upon it. And the hangings for the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, the [decorative] hangings of the court & the hangings for the door of the gate of the court, by the tabernacle & by the altar & [around it], [its] cords [ropes] & all the instruments [equipment needed] for the service [of the tabernacle ] & all the things made for them, [they shall perform]. Aaron & his sons [are in charge of appointing] the [Gershononite’s] sons with all their service [of carrying things] & [responsibilities]. Ithamar [Aaron’s] son, the priest, is [in charge] of assigning the [duties] of the sons of Gershon in the tabernacle of the congregation.

You shall [count Merari’s] sons [by] their families, by their [father’s houses, from 30 to 50 years old [who] enter the [ministry] to do the work of the tabernacle of the congregation. All the service of [Merari’s] sons, for their [responsibilities] in the tabernacle of the congregation is under the [direction] of Ithamar [Aaron’s] son, the priest. [They are responsible for carrying:] the boards of the tabernacle & [its] bars, sockets & pillars [of it]. [Also] the pillars [around] the court, [its] sockets, pins, cords [ropes], with all their [furnishings]. Assign the things that each man is to [carry].

Moses, Aaron & the chief of the congregation [counted the  Kohathite’s] sons [by] their families, by their [father’s houses], from 30 to 50 years old [who] enter the [ministry] to do the work of the tabernacle of the congregation which were 2,750. Moses & Aaron [counted] the Kohathites according to the [Lord’s command] at the hand of Moses.

[Those counted of [Gershon’s] sons [by] their families, by their [father’s houses], from 30 to 50 years old [who] enter the [ministry] to do the work of the tabernacle of the congregation were 2,630. Moses & Aaron [counted] [Gershon’s] sons according to the [Lord’s command].

[Those counted of [Merari’s] sons [by] their families, by their [father’s houses], from 30 to 50 years old [who] enter the [ministry] to do the work of the tabernacle of the congregation were 3,200. Moses & Aaron [counted] [Merari’s] sons according to the [Lord’s command].

[Those counted of [Levite’s] [by] their families, by their [father’s houses], from 30 to 50 years old [who] enter the [ministry] to do the work of the tabernacle of the congregation were 8,580. Moses & Aaron [counted] the [Levite’s] according to the [Lord’s command].

As the Lord commanded at the hand of Moses [he assigned their duties & told what to carry]. Thus they were [all counted], as the Lord commanded Moses.

Committing Sins and Marital Unfaithfulness

Numbers 5:1-31             The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

The Lord [spoke] to Moses, saying, Command the children [people] of Israel, [so] they put outside the camp every male & female leper & everyone [who] has a [discharge] & whoever is defiled by the dead, [so] their camps where I [the Lord God] dwell [aren’t] defiled. The children [people] of Israel [did] as the Lord [told] Moses.

The Lord [spoke] to Moses, saying, [Say] to the children [people] of Israel, When a man or woman commits [any sin] that [people] commit & [acts unfaithfully to] the Lord, that person is guilty. Then they shall confess their [sin/s] which they have done & he shall [make full restitution plus 1/5 of it] for his [sin] & give it to [the person wronged].

If [the wronged] man [is deceased &] has no [relative to repay for] the [sin], [then], let the [restitution] be [given] to the priest, of the Lord, [with] the ram of atonement & atonement will be made for him.

All the holy things the [people] of Israel bring to the priest, shall be his. Every man’s [holy] things shall [belong to himself], [but whatever] any man gives to the priest, shall [belong to the priest].

The Lord [spoke] to Moses, saying, speak to the [people] of Israel & [say], If any man’s wife goes [astray & is unfaithful to] him & [another] man [lies intimately] with her & her husband [doesn’t know it] & she is defiled,

[but hasn’t been caught, because] there [isn’t any] witness against her & the [husband becomes] jealous & his wife has been defiled, neither [has she been confronted on this matter], or he is jealous & his wife [hasn’t been] defiled: then the man shall bring his wife to the priest.

The [husband] shall bring an offering for her: 1/10 ephah of barley meal, with no oil, nor frankincense put upon it. [It’s] a memorial offering, to bring [any] iniquity [to light].

The priest shall bring her near & set her before the Lord. The priest shall take the holy water in a [clay] vessel & put some of the dust from the tabernacle floor [into] the water.

[When] the woman [is] before the Lord, the priest uncovers her head & puts the memorial offering in her hands, which is the jealousy offering, [while] the priest [has] the bitter water that causes the curse in his hands.

The priest shall [put] the woman [under oath] & [say to her], If no man has lain with you & you [haven’t gone astray & been unfaithful] with another [man], then be free of this bitter water that causes the curse.

But if you have gone [astray & been unfaithful & lain intimately with with a man other than] your husband & you are defiled, then the priest shall charge the woman with this curse & say to the woman, May the Lord cause you to be a curse among your people & make your thigh rot & your belly swell.

This water that [causes] the curse shall go into your bowels & make your belly swell & your thigh rot. The woman shall say, Amen, amen. The priest shall write these curses in a book & he shall [wash them off into] the bitter water.

The [priest] shall [have] the woman drink the bitter water that [causes] the curse & the water shall enter her & become bitter. Then the priest shall take the jealousy offering [from] the woman’s [hands] & shall wave the offering before the Lord & offer it upon the altar. The priest shall take a [memorial] handful [of it] & burn it on the altar & have the woman drink the water afterward.

[After he has] her drink the water, if she is defiled & [has been unfaithful to] her husband, when the water that causes a curse [enters] her & becomes bitter & her belly [swells] & her thigh [rots], the woman shall become a curse among her people. If the woman [isn’t] defiled & is clean, then she shall be free & shall [be able to become pregnant].

This is the law of jealousy, when a wife [goes astray] to another instead of her husband & is defiled or when the spirit of jealousy comes [over] him & he [suspects his wife has been unfaithful,] then she shall come before the Lord & the priest shall [carry out this entire law] on her. Then the man shall be [innocent] & the woman shall bear her [guilt].

The Vow of a Nazarite

Numbers 6:1-27           The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

The Lord [spoke] to Moses, saying, Speak to the children [people] of Israel & say to them, When either a man or woman [wants to dedicate] & separate themselves as Naraties to the Lord: he must [not drink] wine or other strong drink, vinegar, wine vinegar, any liquor of grapes, or eat moist grapes or raisins.

All the time of his Nazarite vow of separation, he shall not eat [anything] from the [grapevine], from the [seeds] to the [skins]. No razor shall come upon his head until his Nazarite vow has been fulfilled.

[During] his separation to the Lord, he shall be holy & shall let the locks of his hair grow. [Through] the days he [separates] himself to the Lord, he shall not [go] near [any] dead body.

He shall not become [defiled] when his father, his mother, his brother or his sister die, because the consecration of God is on his head. He is holy to the Lord all the days of his separation [vow].

If any man dies suddenly [near the person with a Nazarite vow], [which defiles his consecrated head], on the 7th day he shall shave his head, on the day of his cleansing.

On the 8th day the [Nazarite] shall bring 2 turtles or 2 young pigeons to the priest, [at] the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. The priest shall offer 1 for a sin offering & the other for a burnt offering, to make atonement for [the Nazarite], [since] he sinned by [being near] the dead [body] & shall [consecrate] his head that same day.

[The amount of time for the dedication of the Nazarite’s vow, needs to start over, because he] was defiled [by the dead person]. He shall bring a 1 year [old] lamb for the trespass offering.

When the days of the Nazarite’s vow are fulfilled, this is the law: he shall be brought to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. He shall offer a 1 year [old] lamb without blemish as his sin offering to the Lord & 1 year [old] ram without blemish for the peace offering.

[Also, he needs to bring] a basket of unleavened bread, cakes of fine flour mingled with oil & wafers of unleavened bread anointed with oil, [plus] their meat & drink offerings.

At the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, the Nazarite shall shave his head & take the hair [that symbolizes their dedication to the Lord during the separation] & put it in the fire which is under the sacrifice of the peace offerings.

The priest shall take the [boiled] shoulder of the ram, 1 unleavened cake & 1 unleavened wafer from the basket & shall put them [in] the hands of the Nazarite, after [he has shaved his head].

The priest shall wave them for a wave offering before the Lord. [These are] holy [& are] for the priest, [along] with the wave breast & the heave shoulder. After that the Nazarite may drink wine. This is the law of the Nazarite & his offering he has vowed to the Lord for his [dedication], [besides what he shall also give].

He must do [according] to the law of his [dedication]. The Lord [spoke] to Moses, saying, Speak to Aaron & his sons, saying, [This is the way] you shall bless the children [people] of Israel, saying, The Lord bless you & keep you. The Lord [makes] His face to shine upon you & be gracious to you. The Lord [lifts] up His countenance upon you & [gives] you peace.

They shall put My name [the Lord God] upon the children [people] of Israel & I will bless them.

The Levites Are Purified

Numbers 8:1-26     The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

The Lord said to Moses, Speak to Aaron I say to him, When you light the lamps, [all] 7 lamps shall give light [opposite to] the candlestick [lampstand]. Aaron did [this] & lit the lamps, so the light [shone opposite the lampstand], as the Lord commanded Moses.

The [lampstand] was made of [hammered] gold, [from its base to its flowers], [all hammered] work, according to the pattern the Lord had [shown] Moses. The Lord [spoke] to Moses, Take the Levites from among the children [people] of Israel & cleanse them.

To cleanse them, you shall sprinkle purifying water on them & have them shave all their [body] & wash their clothes, [to cleanse] themselves. Let them take a young bull with [its meat/grain] offering [of] fine flour mingled with oil. Take another young bull for a sin offering.

You shall bring the Levites & gather the whole assembly of the children [people] of Israel [to] the tabernacle of the congregation. You shall bring the Levites before the Lord & the [people] of Israel shall put their hands upon the Levites.

Aaron shall offer the Levites before the Lord for an offering of the [people] of Israel, [so] they may [do] the service of the Lord. The Levites shall lay their hands upon the heads of the bulls & you shall offer 1 for a sin offering & the other for a burnt offering, to the Lord, to make an atonement for the Levites.

You shall [bring] the Levites before Aaron & his sons & offer them [as] an offering to the Lord. You shall separate the Levites from the [other people] of Israel & the Levites shall be Mine.

After that, the Levites shall go in & [serve in] the tabernacle of the congregation. You shall [purify] them & present them [like] an offering. For they shall be [totally dedicated] to Me from the [people] of Israel. I have taken them for [Myself], instead of the firstborn of all the children of Israel.

On the day that I [struck] the firstborn of the land of Egypt, I sanctified the firstborn of both man or beast of the [people] of Israel for Myself. I have taken the Levites [instead of] the firstborn of the children of Israel.

I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron & his sons to [assist] in [serving] the congregation, for [the people] of Israel & to make atonement, [so] there [isn’t any] plague among the [people] of Israel, when [they] come near the sanctuary.

Moses, Aaron & all the congregation of Israel did to the Levites all that the Lord commanded Moses & the [people] of Israel concerning them. The Levites were purified & they washed their clothes & Aaron offered them before the Lord & made an atonement to cleanse them.

After that, the Levites went to [serve] in the tabernacle of the congregation before Aaron & his sons & [they did] as the Lord commanded Moses. The Lord [spoke] to Moses, saying, This is the [duty] of the Levites: from 25 years & older.

They shall [assist in serving] the tabernacle of the congregation. From the age of 50 years, they shall cease [their] service & [no longer do it]. But they shall [assist in ministering] with the [Levites], but shall not [work]. You shall do this to the Levites [related to their duties].

Keeping the Second Passover Celebration

Numbers 9:1-23             The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

The Lord [spoke] to Moses in the Wilderness of Sinai, in the 1st month of the 2nd year after they [came] out of the land of Egypt, saying, Let the children [people] of Israel keep the Passover at [its] appointed [time].

[On] the 14th day of this month, at [evening], you shall keep [the Passover], according to [its] [rules] & ceremonies. Moses [told] the [people] of Israel, to keep the Passover.

They kept the passover on the 14th day of the 1st month at [evening] in the Wilderness of Sinai, according to all the Lord commanded Moses. There were [some] men who were defiled by [a] dead [man’s] body & [couldn’t] keep the Passover on that day. They came before Moses & Aaron that day.

Those men said to [Moses], We are defiled by the dead body of a man. [Why] are we kept back, [where] we [can’t make] an offering [to] the Lord [at its] appointed [time with] the children [people] of Israel?

Moses said to them, Stand still & I will [listen] to what the Lord will command [about] you. The Lord [said] to Moses, [Say] to the [people] of Israel, If any [of you or your descendants are] unclean, [because] of a dead body, or [are on a long] journey, he shall [still] keep the Passover to the Lord.

The 14th day of the 2nd month at [evening], they shall keep it & eat it with unleavened bread & bitter herbs. * They shall leave none of it [until] the morning, nor break any bone of it. They shall keep it according to all the [regulations] of the Passover.

But the man [who] is clean & [isn’t] on a journey [& doesn’t] keep the Passover, [that person] shall be cut off from his people & bear his [guilt], because he [didn’t bring] the offering of the Lord in [its] appointed [time].

If a stranger shall [stay] among you & [wants] to keep the Passover to the Lord; he must do according to the [Passover’s rules & regulations]. You shall have the same [regulations] for the stranger, [as] for those born in [this] land.

On the day the tabernacle was [put] up, the cloud [of the Lord], covered the tent of the Testimony, of the tabernacle by day & the appearance of fire [covered it], until morning. Always the cloud covered it by day & the appearance of fire by night.

When the cloud was [lifted] from the tabernacle, the children [people] of Israel journeyed. [When] the cloud [stayed], the [people] of Israel [camped] there.

At the [Lord’s command], the [people] of Israel journeyed & at the Lord’s [command], they [stayed] & rested in their tents, as long as the cloud [was on] the tabernacle. When the cloud [continued there] many days, the [people] of Israel, did according to the [Lord’s order] & [didn’t] journey.

[When] the cloud was [only] on the tabernacle [for] a few days, according to the [Lord’s] command, they [stayed] in their tents & at the [Lord’s] command they journeyed.

[Even] when the cloud [stayed ] from [evening until]  morning & was [lifted] in the morning, they journeyed. Whether it was by day or by night, [when] the cloud was [lifted] they journeyed.

Whether it was for 2 days, 1 month, or 1 year, that the cloud [stayed] on the tabernacle & [remained on it], the [people] of Israel [stayed] in their tents & [didn’t] journey. But [when the cloud was lifted] up, they journeyed.

At the [Lord’s command] they rested in the tents & at the [Lord’s command] they journeyed. They kept the Lord’s [order], [as] the Lord [commanded], by the hand of Moses.

Breaking Camp

Numbers 10:1-36                   The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

The Lord [spoke] to Moses, saying, Make 2 trumpets of silver, [all of] 1 piece, [so] you may use them for calling the assembly [to journey out] of the camps. When they shall blow [the trumpets] all the assembly shall [gather] together to you at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

If they [only] blow 1 trumpet, then the prices [who] are heads of the 1,000’s of Israel, shall gather themselves to you. When you blow an alarm, then the camps that lie on the east, shall go forward. When you blow an alarm the 2nd time, the camps that lie on the south side, shall [begin] their journey.

[When] they blow [the trumpet], [it]  shall be an alarm for their journeys. When you [just want] the congregation to be gathered together, blow [the trumpet, but don’t] sound an alarm. It shall be an ordinance to you throughout your generations, that Aaron & his sons, the priests, shall blow the trumpets.

You shall blow an alarm with the trumpets if you go to war in your land against the enemy [who oppresses] you. You shall be remembered before the Lord your God & you shall be saved from your enemies.

Also, in the days of [rejoicing], in your solemn days, in the beginning of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings & over the sacrifices of your peace offerings, [so] they may be a memorial for you before your God. I am the Lord your God.

It [happened] on the 20th day, [in] the 2nd month, in the 2nd year, the cloud [was lifted] off the tabernacle of the Testimony. The children [people] of Israel [started] their journey out of the Wilderness of Sinai. The cloud rested in the Wilderness of Paran.

They took their 1st journey, according to the [Lord’s] command by the hand of Moses. The [banner] of the camp of the children [people] of Judah, went 1st, according to their armies. Over his [division] was Nashon [Amminidab’s] son.

Over the [division] of the tribe of the [people] of Issachar was Nethaneel [Zuar’s] son. Over the [division] of the tribe of the [people] of Zebulun was Eliab [Helon’s] son. The tabernacle was [disassembled] & [Gershon’s] sons & [Merari’s] sons [set out], [carrying] the tabernacle.

The [banner] of the camp of Reuben [set out] according to their armies. Over his [division] was Eliizur [Shedeur’s] son. Over the [division] of the tribe of the [people] of Simeon was Shelumiel [Zurishaddai’s] son. Over the [division] of the tribe of the [people] of Gad was Eliasaph [Deuel’s] son.

The Kohathites set forward, [carrying] the sanctuary. They were to set up the tabernacle [before] they [got there]. The [banner] of the camp of the [people] of Ephraim [set out] according to their armies. Over his [division] was Elishama [Ammihud’s] son.

Over the [division] of the tribe of the [people] of Manasseh was Gamaliel [Pedahzur’s] son. Over the [division] of the tribe of Benjamin was Abidan [Gideoni’s] son.

The [banner] of the camp of the [people] of Dan set [out], which was the [rear guard] of all the camps throughout their [divisions]. Over his [division] was Ahiezer [Ammishaddai’s] son. Over the [division] of the tribe of the [people] of Asher was Pagiel [Ocran’s] son.

Over the [division] of the tribe of the [people] of Naphtali was Ahira [Enan’s] son. [This was the order of the march] of the [people] of Israel in their [journeys] according to their armies, when they set forward.

Moses said to Hobab, [Raguel’s] son, the Midianite, [who was] Moses’ father-in-law, We are [taking our journey] to the place the Lord said, I will give it to you. Come with us & we will do good [to] you. For the Lord has spoken [of] good [things] concerning Israel.

[Hobab] said to [Moses], I [won’t] go, but I will [go] to my own land & my [family]. [Moses] said, I pray that you [don’t] leave us. You know much about [camping] in the wilderness & you might be [our] eyes [to guide us].

If you should go with us, [whatever] good the Lord does to us, we will do the same to you. They departed from [Sinai] the Mount of the Lord & [went] 3 days’ journey, [but] the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord went [first] in their journey, to search out a resting place for them.

The cloud of the Lord was upon them by day & when they [left] the camp. It [happened] when the Ark set forward, Moses said, Lord, rise up & let Your enemies be scattered. Let [those who] hate You, flee before You. When [the Ark was in its resting place], Moses said, Return, O Lord, to the many 1,000’s of Israel.

The Israelites Complain

Numbers 11:1-35               The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

When the people complained, the Lord heard it & it displeased the Lord. The Lord’s anger [grew] & the fire of the Lord burnt among them & consumed [those who] were on the [outskirts] of the camp. The people cried to Moses.

When Moses prayed to the Lord, the fire was quenched. [Moses] called the place Taberah; because of the [Lord’s] fire burning among them. The [mixed] multitude of the children [people] of Israel, [had cravings] & cried again & said, Who shall give us [meat] to eat?

We remember the fish, cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions & garlic, we used to eat freely in Egypt. Now our soul is dried [up] & [there’s] nothing at all before our eyes, [except for] this manna. The manna was like coriander seed & [its] color was like the color of bdellium.

The people went [around] & gathered it & ground it in mills or beat it in a mortar & baked it in a pans & made cakes of it. [Its] taste was [like] the taste of fresh oil. And when the dew fell on the camp at night, the manna fell on it. Moses heard the people weep at the door of their tents throughout their families & the anger of the Lord [grew] great & Moses was also displeased.

Moses asked the Lord, Why have You afflicted Your servant? Why [haven’t] I found favor in Your sight that You have laid the burden of all this people on me? Have I conceived or begotten all these people, that You should say to me, Carry them in your bosom, as a father carries a [nursing] child, to the land which You [swore] to their fathers?

Where am I to get [enough meat] to give to all [these] people? For they weep to me, saying, Give us [meat] to eat. I am [unable] to bear the [burden] of this people alone, because it’s too heavy for me. If You deal this [way] with me, I pray that you kill me, [at once], if I’ve found favor in Your sight. [Don’t let] me see [how wretched I am].

The Lord told Moses, Gather to Me 70 men known to be the elders of Israel, the elders of the people & officers over them & bring them into the tabernacle of the congregation, [so] they may stand there with you. I [the Lord God] will come down [from heaven] & talk with you there.

I will take [some] of the Spirit that is upon you & will put it on the people with you, [so] you [don’t] bear it alone. Say to the people, Sanctify yourselves tomorrow & you shall eat [meat]. For you have wept in the ears of the Lord, saying, Who shall give us [meat] to eat? For [things were good for] us in Egypt.

Therefore the Lord will give you [meat] & you shall eat [of it]. You shall not [just] eat 1 day, 2, 5, 10, or 20 days. But [you shall eat it] a whole month until it comes out of your nostrils & is [disgusting] to you: because you have despised the Lord [who] is among you.

[You] have wept before Him, saying, Why [did we come here] out of Egypt? Moses said, The people [with me] are 600,000 footmen. You have said, I will give them [meat], [so] they may eat [it] a whole month. Shall [all] the flocks & herds be [killed] to [satisfy] them? Or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together to [satisfy] them?

The Lord said to Moses, Is the Lord’s hand [too short]? You shall now see whether My word shall come to pass to you or not. Moses went out & told the people [what the Lord said] & gathered 70 men of the elder of the people & [put] them [around] the tabernacle.

The Lord came down in a cloud & [spoke] to [Moses] & took [some of] the Spirit that was upon [Moses] & gave it to the 70 elders. It [happened] that when the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied & [didn’t] cease. But 2 men remained in the camp, [named] Eldad & Medad & [they didn’t go to the tabernacle, but] the Spirit rested on them & they prophesied in the camp.

A young man ran & told Moses & said, Eldad & Medad [are prophesying] in the camp. Joshua, [Nun’s] son, a young servant of Moses, answered & said, My lord Moses, forbid them. Moses said to [Joshua], [Do you envy] them for my sake? [I wish] God [would make] all the Lord’s people prophets & the Lord would put His Spirit upon them!

Moses & the elders of Israel [went into] the camp. There was a wind from the Lord that [carried] quails from the sea & let them fall [around] the camp [within ] a day’s journey on all sides of the camp, 2 cubits high over the [ground].

The People stood up all that day & night & all the next day, [gathering] the quails. [No one gathered less than] 10 homers. They spread [quails] out [around] the camp. While the [meat] was [still] in between their teeth [as they chewed it], the [anger] of the Lord [grew] against the people.

The Lord [struck] them with a [severe] plague. [Moses] called the name of that place, Kibroth Hattaavah; because they buried the people [there who] lusted for [meat]. The people journeyed from Kibroth Hattaavah & [stayed in] Hazeroth.

Aaron & Miriam, Moses’ Siblings, Envy His Power

Numbers 12:1-16                                The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

Miriam & Moses [spoke] against Moses, because of the Ethiopian woman he had married. They said, [Has] the Lord [only] spoken through Moses? [Hasn’t] He also spoken by us? And the Lord heard it.

(Now, Moses was a very [timid] man, above all men upon the face of the earth.) The Lord spoke suddenly to Moses, Aaron & Miriam, You 3, come out into the tabernacle of the congregation [& the 3 did so].

The [Lord God] came down in the pillar of the cloud & stood in the door of the tabernacle & called aaeom & Miriam. They both came [forward]. The [Lord God] said, Hear now My words. If there [is] a prophet among you, I, the Lord, will make Myself known to him in a vision & will speak to him in a dream.

[I don’t do this] with My servant, Moses, who is [the most] faithful in all My house. I speak with [Moses face to face plainly] & not in dark [sayings]. [Moses] sees the [form] of the Lord.

[Why weren’t] you afraid to speak against My servant, Moses? The anger of the Lord [grew] against them & He departed. [When] the cloud departed off the tabernacle, [Miriam’s skin] became leprous, white as snow.

Aaron looked upon Miriam & she was leprous. Aaron said to Moses, I [beg] you to, not lay our sin on us. We have done foolishly & have sinned. Let [Miriam] not be like a [stillborn who] is dead, with skin that is 1/2 consumed from the mother’s womb.

Moses cried to the Lord, saying, I beg You, heal her now, O God. The Lord said to Moses, If her father had spit in her face & [defiled her], [wouldn’t] she be [humbled] for 7 days? Let her be shut [outside] the camp for 7 days. After that, she may [come] in again. Afterward, the people [left] from Azeroth & pitched [their tents] in the Wilderness of Paran.

At the Lord’s Command, Moses Sent All These from the Wilderness of Paran

Numbers 13:1-33                       The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

The Lord told Moses, Send [12] men to search [out] the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the children [people] of Israel. A  man shall be sent [from] every tribe of their fathers, everyone a ruler among them.

By command of the Lord, Moses sent them from the Wilderness of Paran, all those [12] men were heads of the children [people] of Israel. These were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua, [Zaccur‘s] son. Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat, [Hori‘s] son. Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb, [Jephunneh‘s] son.

Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal, [Joseph‘s] son. Of the tribe of Ephraim, Oshea, [Nun‘s] son. Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti, [Raphu‘s] son. Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel, [Sodi's] son. Of the tribe of Joseph, Manasseh, Gaddi, [Susi‘s] son. Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel, [Gemalli‘s] son.

Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur, [Michael‘s] son. Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi, [Vophsi‘s] son. Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel, [Machi‘s] son. These are the names of the men Moses sent to spy out the land of Canaan & said to them, Go up this way by the south & go up into the mountain.

See the land, what it is, & the people [who live] there, whether they are strong or weak, few or many. What land [do they live] in, whether it is good or bad, and what cities they [live] in, whether in tents or with [fortified walls]. [See] what the land is, whether [it’s fertile or barren], whether there are woods [in it] or not.

Be of good courage & bring [some] of the fruit of the land. It was the time of the 1st ripe grapes. So, the [12] went up & searched the land from the Wilderness of Zin to Rehob, [toward] Hamath. They ascended by the south & came to Hebron where Ahiman, Sheshai, Talmai, the children of Anak, were.

(Now Hebron was built 7 years before Zoan in Egypt.) They came to the Brook of Eshcol & cut down a branch with a cluster of grapes from [there] & [carried] it on a [pole] between 2 [men]. They brought [some] pomegranates & figs. The place was called the Brook of Eshcol [cluster], because of the cluster of grapes the [men] of Israel cut down from [there].

They returned from searching the land after 40 days. They came to the Wilderness of Paran to Kadesh, to Moses, Aaron & all the congregation of the children [people] of Israel & brought back word to them & [showed] them the fruit of the land.

They told [Moses] & said, We came to the land that you sent us [to] & it surely flows with milk & honey. This is  the fruit of it. [Still] the people [are] strong [who live] in the land. The cities are walled & very [big].

[Also] we saw the children [people] of Anak there. The Amalekites [live] in the land of the south & the Hittites, Jebusites & the Amorites [live] in the mountains. The Canaanites [live] by the sea & by the coast of Jordan.

Caleb [quieted] the people before Moses & said, [Let’s] go up at once & possess it. For we are very able to overcome [them]. But the men [who] went up with [Caleb] said, We [aren’t] able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we [are].

They brought up an [negative] report of the land which they had searched, [to] the [people] of Israel, saying, The land, which we searched, is a land that eats up [its] inhabitants. All the people we saw were [very] tall.  We saw the [giants] there, the sons of Anak, which are of the giants. In our sight, we were like grasshoppers [to them].

Reporting About What They Saw in the Promised Land

Numbers 14:1-45       The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

All the congregation lifted up their [voices] & [cried] & wept that night. All the children [people] of Israel murmured against Moses & Aaron & the whole congregation said to them, We [wish] that God [had let us die] in the land of Egypt! Or [that we had] died in this wilderness!

[Why] has God brought us [into] this land, to fall by the sword, [so] our wives & children would be [plunder]. [Wouldn’t it] be better for us to return to Egypt? They said to 1 another, let us make a captain & return to Egypt.

Then Moses & Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the [people] of Israel. Joshua, [Nun’s] son & Caleb [Jephunneh’s] son, [who] were with [those who] searched the land [tore] their clothes [in mourning].

They [spoke] to all the company of the [people] of Israel, saying, The land we passed through to search, is [an exceedingly] good land. If the Lord delights in us, then He will bring us into this land & give it to us. A land flowing with milk & honey. Only [don’t] rebel against the Lord.

Neither shall you [be afraid] of the people of the land. For they are [like] bread for us. Their defense [has] departed from them. The Lord is with us: [so don’t be afraid] of them. But all the congregation [wanted] to stone them.

The glory of the Lord appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the [people] of Israel. The Lord said to Moses, How long will this people provoke Me? How Long will it be [before] they believe Me: with all the signs I have [shown] among them?

I will [strike] them with pestilence & disinherit them & will make you a greater nation, mightier, than they [are]. Moses said to the Lord, Then the Egyptians [will] hear it, (for You brought up this people in Your might from among [the Egyptians]).

They will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that You, Lord are among this people & that You, Lord are seen face to face & Your cloud stands over them & goes out before them, by daytime in a pillar of a cloud & a pillar of fire by night.

Now, if you should kill all [these] people, as [if they are] 1 man, then the nations [who] have heard of Your fame will [say], The Lord has [killed] these people in the wilderness, because He was unable to bring [them] into the land which He swore to them.

Now, I [beg] You, my Lord, let [Your] power be great, according to [all] You have spoken, saying, The Lord is [patient] & [very merciful], forgiving iniquity & transgression] & by no means clearing the guilty & visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the 3rd & 4th generations].

I [beg] You, pardon the iniquity of [these] people according to the greatness of Your mercy, as You have forgiven [them] from Egypt until now. The Lord said, I have pardoned [them] according to your [request]. But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord.

Because all those men [who] have seen My glory & My miracles [that] I did in Egypt & in the wilderness, have tempted Me now, 10 times & [they haven’t listened] to My voice. Surely, they shall not see the land which I [swore] to their [forefathers].

Neither shall any of them [who] provoked Me, see it, [except] My servant, Caleb, because he had a [different] spirit & [totally] followed Me. I will bring him into the land where he went [to explore] & his [descendants] shall possess it.

(Now the Amalekites & Canaanites [lived] in the valley.) Tomorrow [return] to the wilderness by way of the Red Sea. The Lord [spoke] to Moses & Aaron, saying, How long shall I [put up with] this evil congregation, [who] murmur against Me? I have heard the [complaints] of the children [people] of Israel, against Me.

Say to them, The Lord [said], as truly as I live, I will do to you as you have spoken in My ears. All you from 20 years & older [who] were numbered, of those [who] murmured against Me, your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness.

[Most certainly], you shall not come into the land [that] I [swore] to make you [live there], [except] for Caleb [Jephunneh’s] son & Joshua [Nun’s] son. But I will bring in your little ones, [that] you said would be prey & they shall [inherit] the land [that] you despised.

But as for you, your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness. Your children shall wander in the wilderness 40 years, [because of your unfaithfulness to the Lord God] until your carcasses [decompose] in the wilderness. They shall bear your [guilt] for 40 years, 1 year for each of the 40 days that you [explored] the land & you shall know [My displeasure, because you broke My covenant].

I the Lord [God] said, I will surely do this to this evil congregation [who] are gathered together against Me. They shall die & be consumed in this wilderness. The men [that] Moses [had] sent to [explore] the land & returned & [gave a bad report about it] & made all the congregation murmur against [God], died by the plague before God.

But Joshua [Nun’s] son & Caleb [Jephunneh’s] son, who went with them [& didn’t give a bad report], still lived. Moses told [this] to all the children [people] of Israel & [they] greatly mourned.

They rose up early in the morning & [went] up to the top of the mountains, saying, We [are] here & will go up to the place the Lord has promised: for we have sinned. Moses said, [Why are you going against the command] of the Lord? It [won’t succeed].

[Don’t go] up, for the Lord [isn’t] among you, [so] you [aren’t killed] before your enemies. For the Amalekites & Canaanites are there before you & you shall fall by the sword, because you turned away from the Lord. Therefore the Lord [won’t] be with you.

But they [decided] to go up to the hilltop. [Still] the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord & Moses [didn’t] depart out of the camp. Then, the Amalekites came down & the Canaanites, [who lived] in that hill & [attacked those who went up the hill] & [chased] them all the [way] to Hormah.

When They Sin Unintentionally

Numbers 15:1-41                          The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

The Lord [spoke] to Moses, saying, Speak to the children [people] of Israel & say to them, When you come into the land [I’m giving] you to [live in], [you] will take [from] the herd or the flock to make a burnt offering by fire to the Lord, or a sacrifice [fulfilling] a vow, or a freewill offering, or [during] your solemn feasts, to make a sweet [aroma] to the Lord.

Then shall [the person who makes] his offering to the Lord, bring a [meat/grain] offering of 1/10 deal of flour mingled with 1/4 of a hin of oil. And 1/4 of a hin of wine for a drink offering, you shall prepare with the burnt offering or sacrifice, for 1 lamb.

For a ram, you shall prepare 2/10 deals of flour mingled with 1/3 of a hin of oil for a [meat/grain] offering. For a drink offering, you shall offer 1/3 part of a hin of wine, for a sweet [aroma] to the Lord.

When you prepare the bull for a burnt offering, or for a sacrifice in [fulfilling] a vow, or peace offerings to the Lord: Then he shall bring with the bull a [meat/grain] offering of 3/10 deals of flour mingled with 1/2 hin of oil.

You shall bring for the drink offering 1/2 hin of wine, for an offering made by fire, or a sweet [aroma] to the Lord. [This] shall be done for 1 bull, 1 ram, or a lamb or a kid [goat]. You shall do this for every [animal], according to [how many] you [prepare].

All [native born Israelites] shall prepare [their] offering made by fire, [for] a sweet [aroma] to the Lord, after this manner. If a stranger [stays] with you, or [whoever is] among you [during] your generations & [wants] to make an offering made by fire, [for] a sweet [aroma] to the Lord, shall do [exactly] as you do.

[There] shall be 1 ordinance for both you of the congregation & the stranger who stays with you, forever in your generations before the Lord. [The same types] of laws [& rules] are for the [Israelites] & the strangers among them.

The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, Speak to the children [people] of Israel & say to them, When you come into the land [where] I am bringing you & when you eat of the bread of the land, you shall offer up a heave offering to the Lord. You shall offer a cake of the 1st of your dough for a heave offering to the Lord & you shall heave it [like] you do the heave offerings of the threshing floor, [throughout] your generations.

If you [haven’t done] all these commandments which the Lord has [ordered] Moses & have erred, then it shall be, if it was committed in ignorance without the congregation [being aware of it],

Then all the congregation shall offer 1 young bull for a burnt offering, for a sweet [aroma] to the Lord, with [its] [meat/grain] & drink offerings & 1 kid [goat] for a sin offering, according to the [rules].

The priest shall make atonement for [the whole Israelite community] & it shall be forgiven them. For [they did it] in ignorance & they shall bring before the Lord their offering made by fire & their sin offering for their [mistakes]. All the [Israelite] congregation & the stranger [who stays] with them shall be forgiven, [since] it was done in ignorance.

If any [person] shall sin [unintentionally], then he shall bring a 1 year old [female] goat for a sin offering. The priest shall make an atonement for the person [who] sinned [unintentionally] before the Lord & he shall be forgiven.

You shall have 1 law for both [those born] of the [Israelites] & the stranger [who stays] among you, [who] sins [unintentionally]. But the [person who [defiantly does wrong] whether he is a [native-born Israelite] or a stranger & blasphemes [insults] the Lord [God], shall be cut off from his people, because he has despised the word of the Lord & has broken His commandment.

That person’s [guilt] shall be upon him & he shall be utterly cut off [from his people]. While the [people] of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man [who] gathered sticks on the Sabbath day. [Those who] found him, brought him to Moses & Aaron & to all the congregation.

They kept him [under guard], because it [hadn’t been] declared what [to do] to him. The Lord said to Moses, The man shall surely be [stoned] to death, by the congregation [outside] the camp. All the camp did so & he died, as the Lord commanded Moses.

The Lord [spoke] to Moses, saying, Speak to the [people] of Israel & [tell] them to make fringes with a [band] of blue [on] the borders of their [clothing] throughout their generations. When you look upon the fringe, you may remember the [Lord’s] commandments & do them.

And you [aren’t] to be [unfaithful, going after the desires] of your own heart & eyes [which have led you astray]. Remember & do all My commandments & be holy to your God. I am the Lord, your God, [who] brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God. I am the Lord your God.

Korah Rebels Against Moses & Aaron

Numbers 16:1-50                The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan & Abiram [Eliab’s] sons, and On [Peleth’s] son, [of] the sons of Reuben, took 250 princes of the assembly, [who were] famous men of renown, with some of the children [people] of Israel  & they rose up [against]

Moses & Aaron & said to them, You take too much on [yourselves], seeing that everyone of the congregation is holy & the Lord is among them. Why do you, then lift yourselves up above the congregation of the Lord?

When Moses heard it, he fell upon his face & [spoke] to Korah & all his company, saying, Tomorrow, the Lord will [show] you who are His & who is holy & will cause the one He has chosen to come near to Him.

Take  [your] censers, Korah & all [your] company & put fire in them before the Lord tomorrow. It shall be that the man the Lord chooses will be holy. You take too much upon [yourselves], you sons of Levi.

Moses said to Korah, I pray that you hear, you sons of Levi. [Does it seem] like a small thing to you, that the God of Israel has separated you from the congregation to Israel, to bring you near to Him to serve the tabernacle of the Lord & to minister before the congregation?

The [Lord God] has brought you near to Him, and all your brethren, the sons of Levi with you. [Do] you also seek the priesthood? What [caused] you & all your company to come against the Lord: and what is Aaron that you should [complain] against him?

Moses sent & [called] for Dathan & Abiram [Eliab’s] sons, [who] said, We will not come up. Is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of a land that flows with milk & honey, to kill us in the wilderness, except that you make [yourself] prince over us?

[Also,] you have not brought us into a land that flows with milk & honey, or given us [an] inheritance of fields & vineyards. Will you put the eyes out of all these men? We will not come up. Moses was very [angry] & said to the Lord, [Don’t] respect their offering.

I [haven’t] taken 1 [donkey] from them, neither have I hurt 1 of them. Moses said to Korah, You & your company & Aaron [will] appear before the Lord tomorrow. Every man is to take his censer & put incense in them & bring them before the Lord. Every man with his censer, 250 censers. Also, you & Aaron, each of you [with] his censer.

Every man took his censer & put fire in them & laid incense [in it] & stood in the door of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses & Aaron. Korah gathered all [those] of the congregation [who] were against [Moses & Aaron] to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

The Lord [God spoke] to Moses & Aaron, saying, Separate yourselves from this congregation, [so] I may [destroy] them [now]. [Moses & Aaron] fell on their faces & said, O God, the God of all [living], shall 1 man sin & You are [angry] with the [whole] congregation?

The Lord [said] to Moses, Speak to the congregation saying, [Get away from the tents] of Korah, Dathan & Abiram. Moses rose up & went to Dathan & Abiram & the elders followed him.

[Moses] said to the congregation, I pray that you depart from the tents of these wicked men & [don’t] touch [anything] of theirs, lest you be [destroyed with them] in all their sins. So they got up from all [sides] of the [tent] of Korah, Dathan & Abiram.

Dathan & Abiram, their wives & children came out & stood in the door of their tents. Moses said, [Now] you shall know the Lord [God] has sent me to do all these [things].

For I [haven’t thought of] them on my own. If these men die the [normal death] of all men, or they [are] visited with [a plague that affects] all men, then the Lord [God hasn’t] sent me.

But if the Lord [makes some new consequence] & the earth opens up & swallows them [like a] mouth & they & all [who] pertain to them go down [alive] into the pit, then you shall [know] these men have provoked the Lord [God].

It [happened], as [Moses finished] speaking, the ground [caved in] & the earth opened [its] mouth & swallowed them them up & all [who pertained to Korah], their houses, their [belongings], went down alive into the pit & the earth closed [up] upon them.

They perished from among the congregation. At their cry, all the [Israelites] fled & said, Lest the earth swallow us up also. A fire came from the Lord & consumed the 250 men [who] offered incense before the Lord.

The Lord [spoke] to Moses, saying, Speak to Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, [so] he [collects] the censers [from] the fire & scatter [its remains some distance away] for they are [holy].

Let the censers of these [sinful] men [who lost their lives] be made into broad plates of [brass] as a covering for the altar, [since] they were offered before the Lord & have become [holy] & shall be a sign to the children [people] of Israel.

Eleazar, the priest, [took] the [brass] censers [from] where they had been offered & were burnt & they were made into broad plates for covering the altar.

As the Lord said by the hand of Moses: [they are] to be a memorial to the children [people] of Israel, [so] no stranger, [who] isn’t of Aaron’s [descendants should] come near to offer incense before the Lord, [so he doesn’t end up like] Korah & his company.

But [the next day], all the congregation of the [people] of Israel [grumbled] against Moses, saying, You have killed the people of the Lord.

It [happened] when the congregation gathered against Moses & Aaron & a cloud covered the tabernacle of the congregation & behold, the glory of the Lord appeared & Moses & Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation.

The Lord [spoke] to Moses, saying, Get up from among this congregation, for I will [destroy] them [now] & they fell on their faces. Moses said to Aaron, Take a censer & put fire [in it] from the altar & [put in] incense & go quickly to the congregation & make atonement for them.

For the [anger] of the Lord has gone out & the plague has begun. Aaron [did what] Moses commanded & ran into [the middle] of the congregation & the plague [had started] among the people.

[Aaron] stood between the dead & the living & the plague was [stopped]. There were 14,700 [who] died, [besides those who] died about the matter of Korah. Aaron returned to Moses at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation & the plague [stopped].

Stopping Future Complaints About Leadership

Numbers 17:1-13                   The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

The Lord [spoke] to Moses, saying, Speak to the children [people] of Israel & have everyone of [the 12 tribes] take a rod according to the house of their [forefathers]. 12 rods & write every man’s name upon his rod.

You shall write Aaron’s name on the rod of Levi. For 1 rod will be for the head of the house of their fathers. You shall lay them [upright] in the tabernacle of the congregation before the Testimony, where I will meet with you.

It shall [happen] that the man’s rod that I choose, shall blossom. I wll [rid Myself] of this [grumbling] against you. Moses [spoke] to the children [people] of Israel & everyone on of the [leaders of their forefathers’] houses gave him a rod.

The rod of Aaron was among the 12 rods. And Moses laid the rods [upright] before the Lord in the tabernacle of witness. Behold, Aaron’s rod for the house of Levi, had brought forth buds & budded & [its] blossoms bloomed & [produced] almonds.

Moses brought out all the rods from before the Lord to all the children [people] of Israel & [each] man took his own rod. The Lord said to Moses, Bring Aaron’s rod before the Testimony, again.

[It’s] to be kept as a [sign] against [those who rebel], [so] you can take their [grumbling] away from Me, [so] they [don’t] die.

Moses did, as the Lord [God] commanded him. The children [people] of Israel [spoke] to Moses, saying, If we die, we [will] all perish. [Whoever] comes near the tabernacle of the Lord shall die. Shall we [all] die?

The Assistance of the Levites

Numbers 18:1-32        The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

The Lord said to Aaron, You, your sons & your father’s house shall bear the iniquity [of the sins done related to] the sanctuary. You & you sons shall bear the iniquity [of the sins related to] your priesthood.

Also, bring your brethren, of the tribe of Levi, your [forefather], with you, [so] they may join with you [to assist you] in ministering. But you & your sons shall minister before the tabernacle of witness.

They shall [be responsible for] of all the tabernacle, only they shall not go [near] the vessels of the sanctuary or the altar, so neither they, nor you die. They shall join you & be [responsible for the care] of the tabernacle of the congregation & the service of the tabernacle & strangers shall not come [near] you.

You shall be [responsible] for the sanctuary & the altar, so no more [anger comes] upon the children [people] of Israel. I [the Lord God] have taken your brethren, the Levites, from among the [people] of Israel. They are given as a gift for the Lord, to [do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.

[So], you & your sons [shall be responsible] for the priest’s office &  for everything [related to] the altar & within the veil, [where] you will serve. As a gift, I have given you the priest’s office [for] your service. The stranger [who] comes near [these holy places] will be put to death.

The Lord [spoke] to Aaron, Also, I have [put you in charge of] My heave offerings of all the hallowed things [from] the [people] of Israel. I give to you & your sons [your portion kept from the fire of all these consecrated offerings], by an ordinance forever.

Of the things most holy, these shall be yours & your sons [portion]: every holy [offering] of theirs, their [meat/grain] offerings, sin offerings, trespass offerings, heave offerings, with all the wave offerings of the children [people] of Israel. [They] shall be holy for you and your sons.

Every male shall eat it in the most holy place. It shall be holy to you. I have given these [portions] to you, your sons & your daughters with you, by a statute forever. Everyone [who] is clean in your house, may eat it.

I have also given to you & your sons: all the best of the oil, the best of the wine, the wheat & the firstfruits [of what] they offer to the Lord. [Whatever] is the first of [what is] ripe in the land, [that] they bring to the Lord, shall be yours & everyone [who] is clean in your house shall eat of it.

Every devoted thing in Israel shall be yours. Every [firstborn] of all flesh: whether of men or beasts, shall be yours. Surely, you shall redeem the firstborn of [men] & the firstborn of unclean beasts.

Those who are to be redeemed from 1 month old [& above], according to your estimation [& pay] 5 shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, which is [equal to] 20 gerahs. The [firstborn of animals:] cow, sheep, goat, you shall not redeem; they are holy.

You shall sprinkle their blood upon the altar & shall burn their fat for an offering made by fire, for a sweet [aroma] to the Lord. The [meat] from them shall be yours, [like] the wave breast & the right shoulder are yours.

All the heave offerings of the holy things, the [people] of Israel offer to the Lord, I have given to you & your sons & daughters with you, by a statute forever. [It’s] a salt covenant forever between the Lord to you & your [descendants] with you.

The Lord spoke to Aaron, You shall not have an inheritance in their land, neither shall you have any [portion] among them. I [the Lord God] am your [portion] & your inheritance among the children [people] of Israel.

[Also], I have given the Levites 1/10th [tithe portion] in Israel for an inheritance for their service of the tabernacle of the congregation. [From now on] the [people] of Israel shall not come [near] the tabernacle of the congregations, lest they bear [their] sin & die.

The Levites [shall perform] the service of the tabernacle of the congregation. They shall bear their [sin related to it]. It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations. [The Levites] have no inheritance among the [people] of Israel.

But I [the Lord God] give the [10%] tithes of the [people] of Israel to the Levites to inherit, which is offered [like] a heave offering to the Lord. [That’s why] I [told] the Levites they have no inheritance among the [people] of Israel.

The Lord spoke to Moses saying, [Say] this to the Levites. When you take the [10%] tithes [from] the [people] of Israel, which I have given [to] you for your inheritance, then you shall offer up a heave offering of it, for the Lord, a 1/10th part of the tithe.

[Like the way the Israelites], offer a heave offering of their corn of their threshing floor & [their] wine, you shall also offer [1/10th of the tithes] you receive from the [people] of Israel, as a heave offering to the Lord & give it to Aaron, the priest.

Out of all your gifts, you shall offer every heave offering of the best, hallowed [portion] of it. You shall say to the [Levites], when you have heaved the best [portion] from it, then it shall be counted to the Levites, like the increase of the threshing floor & the winepress.

You & your households shall eat it in every place, for it is your reward for your service in the tabernacle of the congregation. When you have heaved the best [part] of it, you shall bear no sin, because of it & you [won’t] pollute the holy things of the [people] of Israel & you [won’t] die.

The Water of Purification

Numbers 19:1-22                The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

The Lord [spoke] to Moses & Aaron, This is an ordinance of the law, which the Lord has commanded, saying, Speak to the children [people] of Israel, [so] they bring a red heifer, without spot & blemish [that] has never [had a] yoke [for a plow on it].

You shall give her to Eleazar, the priest, [so] he may bring her [outside] the camp & [someone] shall [kill] her before [him]. Eleazar shall take [some] of her blood & sprinkle directly [in front of] the tabernacle of the congregation 7 times.

[Someone] shall burn the heifer, her skin, her flesh, her blood & her [feces] in [Eleazar’s] sight. [Eleazar,] the priest, shall take cedar wood, hyssop & scarlet & cast it into the midst of the burning heifer.

Then the priest shall wash his clothes & bathe his [body] in water. Afterward, he shall come into the camp & the priest shall be unclean until [evening].

[The person who burns the heifer] shall wash his clothes in water & bathe his [body] in water & shall be unclean until [evening].

A man [who] is clean, shall gather up the ashes of the heifer & lay them [outside] the camp in a clean place. It shall be kept for the congregation of the [people] of Israel for a water of separation: it is for purification [from] sin.

[The person who gathers] the ashes of the heifer shall wash his clothes & be unclean until [evening]. It shall [be the same] for the [people] of Israel & the stranger [who stays with them], as a statute forever.

[The person who touches] the dead body of any man shall be unclean 7 days. He shall purify himself [with the water] on the 3rd day. On the 7th day, he shall be clean. If he [doesn’t] purify himself on the 3rd day, he [won’t] be clean on the 7th day.

[Whoever] touches the dead body of a man & [doesn’t] purify himself , [defiles] the tabernacle of the Lord. That [person] shall be cut off from Israel, because the water of separation was not sprinkled upon him. He shall be unclean & his uncleanness is [still] upon him.

This is the law, when a man [dies] in a tent: all [who] are in the tent or come into the tent, shall be unclean for 7 days. Every open vessel [container] which has no cover upon it, is unclean.

[Whoever touches someone who] was killed with a sword in the open fields, or a dead body, or a bone of a man, or a grave, shall be unclean 7 days. For an unclean person they shall take [some] of the ashes of the burnt heifer [for] purification for sin & running water shall be put into a vessel.

A clean person shall take hyssop & dip it in the [purification] water, & sprinkle it on the tent, upon all the vessels, upon the people [who] were there, on the [one who] touched a bone, or [someone killed], or someone dead, or a grave.

The clean person shall sprinkle upon the unclean on the 3rd day & on the 7th day, he shall purify himself & wash his clothes & bathe in water & shall be clean [that evening].

But the man [who] is unclean & [doesn’t] purify himself shall be unclean & shall be cut off from among the congregation, because he has [defiled] the sanctuary of the Lord. The water of separation [hasn’t] been sprinkled on him & he is unclean.

It shall be a perpetual statute to them, that the [person who] sprinkles the water of separation shall wash his clothes. The [person who] touches the water of separation, shall be unclean until [evening].

[Whatever] the unclean person touches, shall be unclean. The [person who] touches [that unclean item], shall be unclean until [evening].

The Waters of Meribah

Numbers 20:1-29                The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

Then the whole congregation [of the] children [people] of Israel came into the Desert of Zin in the 1st month & stayed in Kadesh. Miriam [Aaron’s sister] died there & was buried there.

There was no water for the congregation & they gathered together against Moses & Aaron. The people [argued] with Moses, saying, [If only] God had let us die when our brethren died before the Lord [God]!

Why have you brought up the congregation of the Lord into this wilderness, [so] we & our [livestock] should die there? [Why] have you made us come up out of Egypt, to bring us into this evil place?

[It’s not] a place of [grains], figs, [grapevines], or pomegranates. Neither is there any water to drink. Moses & Aaron [left] the presence of the assembly [& went] to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation & fell upon their faces.

The glory of the Lord appeared to them. The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, Take the rod & you & your brother, Aaron & gather the assembly together.

Speak to the rock before their eyes & it shall give [out its] water & you shall bring them water out of the rock, [so] you shall give the congregation & their [animals] water to drink. Moses took the rod [that was] before the Lord, as He commanded [Moses].

Moses & Aaron gathered the congregation together [in front of] the rock & [Moses] said to them, Hear [us] now, you rebels. Must we [get] you water out of this rock? Moses lifted up the hand & [struck] the rock twice with his rod.

The water came out abundantly & the congregation & their [animals] drank [it]. The Lord [spoke] to Moses & Aaron, Because you [didn’t] believe Me & [didn’t] sanctify Me in the eyes of the children [people] of Israel.

Therefore, you shall not bring the congregation [of the] [people] of Israel, into the land which I [the Lord God] have given them [the underlined portion above explains this].

This is the water of Meribah; because the [people] of Israel [argued] with the Lord, [although He was the Lord God who] sanctified them.

Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom. Your brother, Israel, [said this], You know all the [hardship we have had], how our [forefathers] went down into Egypt & we [lived] there a long time.

The Egyptians [harassed] us & our [forefathers]. We cried to the Lord & He heard our voice & sent an angel & brought us out of Egypt. [Now], we are in Kadesh, a city in the [furthest part] of your border.

I pray that you let us pass through your country. We will not [go] through the fields or the vineyards. Neither will we drink the water from your wells. We will go [on] the King’s Highway. We will not turn to the right or to the left, until we have passed [through] your borders.

Edom said to him, You shall not pass by me, lest I come out against you with a sword. The children [people] of Israel said to him, We will go by the highway. If I & the [livestock] drink [any] of your water, then I will pay for it. I will only go through on my feet without doing anything else.

[Edom’s king] said, You shall not go through. And Edom came out against [them] with [many] people & a strong hand. Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border.

[Therefore], Israel turned away from him.The whole congregation [of the people] of Israel journeyed from Kadesh & came to Mount Hor. The Lord [spoke] to Moses & Aaron [at] Mount Hor, by the coast of the land of Edom, saying, Aaron shall be gathered [in death] to his people.

For he shall not enter into the land which I have given to the children [people] of Israel, because you rebelled against My word at the water of Meribah.Take Aaron & Eleazar, his son & bring them up to Mount Hor. And strip Aaron of his [priest’s] garments & put them on Eleazar, his son.

Aaron shall be gathered to his people & shall die there. Moses did as the Lord commanded. They went up into Mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation. Moses stripped Aaron of his [priest’s] garments & put them on Eleazar, his son.

Aaron died there on top of the [mountain] & Moses & Eleazar came down from the [mountain]. When all the congregation [of] Israel saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron 30 days.

The Israelites on the Move

Numbers 21: 1-35                  The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

When king Arad, the Canaanite, [who lived] in the south [country], heard that Israel came by the [road traveled by spies], he fought against Israel & took some of them prisoners.

Israel vowed to the Lord [God] & said, If You [God] will indeed deliver [these] people into my hand, I will [totally] destroy their cities. The Lord [listened] to the voice of Israel & delivered the Canaanites & [the Israelites totally] destroyed them & their cities.

The name of the place was called Hormah. [The Israelites] journeyed from Mount Hor on the [road] by the Red Sea to [go around] the land of Edom. The [Israelites] were very discouraged, because [of having to be on the road].

The people [spoke] against God & Moses. [Why] have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread or water & our soul [despises] this light bread [mana].

The Lord sent fiery serpents [snakes] among the people & they bit [them] & many people of Israel died. Therefore, the people came to Moses & said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord & you. Pray to the Lord, that He [takes] awaythe [snakes] from us. Moses prayed for the people.

The Lord said to Moses, Make for you a fiery serpent & [put] it on a pole. It shall [happen] that [those who] look upon it, [when they are] bitten, [will] live. Moses made a serpent of brass & [put] it on a pole. It [happened] that if a snake had bitten [anyone] & he [looked] at the serpent of brass, he lived.

The children [people] of Israel set forward & pitched [their tents] in Oboth. They journeyed from there & pitched [their tents] in Ije Abarim, in the wilderness before Moab, toward the sunrise.

They journeyed from there & pitched [their tents] in the Valley of Zared. They journeyed from there & pitched [their tents] on the other side of Arnon, which is in the wilderness that comes out of the coasts of the Amorites. For Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab & the Amorites.

[Therefore] it is said in the book of the wars of the Lord, What [God] did in the Red Sea & in the Brooks of Arnon & at the stream of the brooks that goes down to the dwelling of Ar & lies upon the border of Moab.

From [there], they went to Beer, that is the well [where] the Lord [spoke] to Moses [& said], Gather the people together & I will give them water. Then Israel sang this song, Spring up, O well; sing [you] to it: The princes, the nobles & the people [dug] the well at [God] the lawgiver’s direction with their [poles].

And from the wilderness, they went to Mattanah. From [there] to Nahaliel. From [there] to Bamoth, in the valley that is in the [field] of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looks toward Jeshimon.

Israel sent messengers to Sihon, the [Amorite’s] king, saying, Let me pass through [your] land. We [won’t go] into the field, or the vineyards. We [won’t] drink the waters of the well, but we will go by the King’s Highway, until we are past your borders.

Sihon [wouldn’t allow] Israel to pass through his border. Sihon gathered all his people together & went into the wilderness & came to Jahaz & fought against Israel. Israel [killed Sihon] with the edge of the sword & [captured] his land from Arnon to Jabok, even to the children [people] of Ammon, for their border was strong.

Israel took all these cities & Israel [ived] in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon & in all [their] villages. For Heshbon was the city of Sihon, the [Amorite’s] king, who had fought against the former king of Moab & [had] taken all his land out of his hand, even to Arnon.

[Those who] speak in proverbs say, Come into Heshbon, let the city of Sihon be built & [repaired]. For there is a fire gone out of Heshbon. A flame from the city of Sihon. It has consumed Ar of Moab & the lords of the high places [where they worship false gods] of Arnon. Woe to you, Moab!

You are [destroyed], O people of Chemosh. He has given his sons & daughters [who] escaped into captivity to king Sihon of the Amorites. We have shot at them & Heshbon to Dibon [has] perished & we have laid them waste even to Nophah, which reaches to Medeba.

Israel [lived] in the land of the Amorites. Moses sent [some] to spy out Jaazer & they [captured its] villages & drove out the Amorites [who] were there. They turned & went up by way of Bashan & Og [Bashan’s] king & all his people went out against the [Israelites] to the Battle of Edrei.

The Lord said, [Don’t be afraid] of him, because I have delivered him, all his people & all his land into your hand. You shall do to him as you did to Sihon the [Amorite’s] king [who] lived in Heshbon. So they [killed] him, his sons & all his people, until there were none left alive & they possessed his land.

Requesting Balaam to go see Balak, King of Moab

Numbers 22:1-41          The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

The children [people] of Israel set forward & [pitched their tents] in the plains of Moab, on this side [of the] Jordan [River] by Jericho. Balak, [Zippor’s] son, saw all the [Israelites] had done to the Amorites.

Moab was [very] afraid & distressed because of the people [Israelites], because [there] were many [of them]. Moab said to [Midian’s] elders, Now this company of [Israelites] shall lick up all [who] are [around] us, [like] a cow licks up the grass of the field.

Balak, [Zippor’s] son, was the [Moabites’s] king, at the time. [Balak] sent messengers to Balaam, [Beor’s] son, [at] Pethor, which is by the river in the land of his people, to call [Balaam].

[They said], [Look], there is a people [who] have come out from Egypt & they cover the face of the earth & are [next] to me. I pray that you come now & curse these people for me, for they are too mighty for me.

[Perhaps], I might prevail & [defeat] them & drive them out of the land. I [know] that those you bless are blessed & [those] you curse are cursed. Moab’s & Midian’s elders left with the [payment for the diviner's curse] in their [hands].

They came to Balaam & [told] him the words Balak [said]. [Balaam] said to them, Lodge here [tonight]  & I will bring you back [an answer], [of whatever] the Lord [says] to me. [Moab’s] princes [stayed] with Balaam.

The [Lord] God came to Balaam & said, [Who] are these men with you? Balaam said to God, Balak, [Zippor’s] son, [Moab’s] king, has sent to me saying, [Look], there is a people [who] have come out of Egypt & cover the face of the earth. Come now [&] curse them [for me].

[Perhaps] I will be able to overcome them & drive them out. God said to Balaam, You shall not go with them. You shall not curse the people, for they are blessed. Balaam rose up in the morning & said to [Balak’s] princes, [Go] into your land, for the Lord refuses to give me [permission] to go with you.

[Moab’s] princes returned to Balak & said, Balaam refuses to come with us. Balak sent back [even] more honorable princes & they came to Balaam. [They] said to him, Balak, [Zippor’s] son, [said], I pray that you [don’t let anything stop] you from coming to me.

For I will promote you [with] great honor & I will do [whatever] you say. I pray that you come here & curse [these] people [for] me. Balaam said to [Balak’s] servants, If Balak were to give me his house full of silver & gold, I [can’t] go beyond [doing] more or less [than] the word of the Lord my God.

Therefore, I pray that you [stay] here [tonight], to know [if] the Lord will say more to me. God came to Balaam in the night & said to him, If the men come to call you, rise up & go with them; but you shall [only] do the word I shall say to you.

[Balaam didn’t wait to be called like God told him &] Balaam rose up in the morning & saddled his [mule] & went up with [Moab’s] princes. God’s anger [grew] because [Balaam] went.

The Angel of the Lord stood in the [road as] an adversary against [Balaam]. [Balaam] was riding on his [mule] & his 2 servants were with him. The [mule] saw the Angel of the Lord standing in the [road] & his sword drawn in his hand.

The [mule] turned away & went into the field & Balaam [struck the mule] to turn her [back] into the [road]. But the Angel of the Lord stood in the path of the vineyards [with a] wall on [either] side.

When the [mule] saw the Angel of the Lord, she thrust herself into the wall & crushed Balaam’s foot against the wall & he [struck his mule] again. The Angel of the Lord went further & stood in a narrow place where there was no place to go to the right or to the left.

When the [mule] saw the Angel of the Lord, she fell down [with Balaam on top of her]. Balaam’s anger [grew] & he [struck his mule] with a staff. The Lord opened the mouth of the [mule]. She said to Balaam, What have I done to you that you have [struck] me these 3 times?

Balaam said to the [mule], Because you have mocked me. I [wish] I had a sword in [my] hand, for I would kill you now. The [mule] said to Balaam, [Aren’t] I the [same mule you’ve] ridden ever since I [became] yours until this day? [Did] I ever do [this] to you? [Balaam] said, No.

Then the Lord opened [Balaam’s] eyes & he saw the Angel of the Lord standing there with a sword drawn in his hand. [Balaam] bowed down his head & fell flat on his face. The Angel of the Lord said to [Balaam], [Why] have you [struck] your [mule] these 3 times?

[Look] I went to [oppose] you, because [what you are doing is evil in God’s sight]. The [mule] saw me & turned these 3 times. Surely, [if] she [hadn’t] turned from me, I would have [killed] you & saved her alive.

Balaam said to the Angel of the Lord, I have sinned, [because] I [didn’t] know that you stood in the [road] against me. If it displeases you, I will [return] back. The Angel of the Lord said to Balaam, Go with the men, but you shall only speak the words that I say to you.

So Balaam went with [Balak’s] princes. When Balak heard that Balaam was [there], he went to the city of Moab, on the border of Arnon in the [outter] coast, to meet him. Balak said to Balaam, [Didn’t] I earnestly send to call you?

[Why] haven’t you come to me? [Aren’t] I able to promote you to honor? Balaam said to Balak, [Although] I have come to you, do I have any power at all to say anything? I shall only speak the [words] that God puts in my mouth. Balaam went with Balak & they came to Kirjath Huzoth.

Balak offered oxen & sheep & sent [some] to Balaam & the princes [who] were with him. It [happened the next day], that Balak took Balaam & brought him up to the high places of Baal, [so Balaam] might see the uttermost part of the people [of Israel].

Balak Wants Balaam to Curse the Israelites

Numbers 23:1-30                     The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

Balaam said to Balak, [Moab’s king], Build me 7 altars here & prepare me 7 oxen & 7 rams. Balak did as Balaam [asked]. Balak & Balaam offered an ox & a ram on [each] altar. Balaam said to Balak, You stand by the burnt offering & I will go. [Perhaps] the Lord will come meet me. I will tell you [whatever] He [shows] me.

Balaam went to a high place. And [the Lord] God met Balaam & [Balaam] said to [God], I have prepared 7 altars & offered a bull & a ram on every altar. The Lord put a word in Balaam’s mouth & said, Return to Balak & [say this to him].

[Balaam] returned to [Balak] & he & all [Moab’s] princes stood by his burnt sacrifice. Balaam [started telling] him & said, [you,] Balak, [Moab’s] king, brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come curseJacob [for] me & come defy Israel.

How shall I curse, whom God [hasn’t] cursed? Or how shall I defy, whom God has not defied? I have seen [Israel] from the top of the rocks & from the hills. I saw [them] & the people [Israelites] shall [live by themselves], set apart from other nations.

Who can count the dust of Jacob [a.k.a. Israel] & count 1/4 of Israel [a.k.a. Jacob]? Let me die the death of the righteous & let my life end like theirs! Balak said to Balaam, What have you done to me? I [asked] you to curse [my enemy], but you have blessed [all of them].

Balaam answered & said, [Shouldn’t] I [be careful to listen & to only] speak [what] the Lord [God] has put into my mouth? Balak said to him, I pray that you come with me to another place [where you won’t be able to] see them all, but  you may see [the outer portion] of them, & curse them [for] me from [there].

[Balak] brought [Balaam] into the field of Zophim to the top of Pisgah & built 7 altars there & offered a bull & a ram on every altar. Balaam said to Balak, Stand here by your burnt offering, while I [go] meet the Lord [ahead]. The Lord met Balaam & put a word in his mouth & said, Go again to Balak & [say this].

When Balaam came to Balak, he & [Moab’s] princes stood by his burnt offering.Balak said to him, What has the Lord [said]? Balaam [started telling him] & said, Rise up, Balak & hear.

[Listen] to me, you son of Zippor. God is not a man [that] He [would] lie & neither is He the son of a man, that He would [change his mind]. [Hasn’t] God spoken & [won’t] He make good [on what He says]?

I have received a command to bless & [God] has blessed & I [can’t] reverse it. [God hasn’t seen] iniquity in Jacob or [evil] in Israel. The Lord his God is with [them] & the shout of a King is among them. God brought them out of Egypt. [They have the strength of a [wild ox].

Surely, there is no enchantment [cursed] against Jacob & no [divining witchcraft] against Israel. [Up until] this time, it shall be said of Jacob & Israel, What God has done!

The people [Israelites] shall rise up like a great lion & lift up [themself like] a young lion, that [doesn’t] lie down until he [feasts] on the prey & drinks [its victim’s] blood. Balak said to Balaam, Neither curse them, nor bless them at all.

But Balaam answered & said to Balak, [Didn’t] I tell you, saying,  All the Lord [says], that I must do? Balak said to Balaam, I pray that you come to another place that I will bring you. [Perhaps] it will please [the Lord] God, [so] you may curse them [for] me from [there].

Balak brought Balaam to the top of [Mount] Peor that looks toward Jeshimon. Balaam said to Balak, Build me 7 altars here & prepare me 7 bulls & 7 rams. Balak did as Balaam said & offered a bull & a ram on every altar.

Balaam Blesses Israel

Numbers 24:1-25                  The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

When Balaam saw that it pleased the Lord [God] to bless Israel, he [didn’t] go to seek for [an] enchantment [cursBalaam lifted his eyes & saw Israel [living] in tents, according to their tribes. e], as he [had] other times, but [Balaam] set his face toward the wilderness.

The Spirit of God came upon [Balaam]. [Balaam] started telling [Balak], Balaam [Beor’s] son, the man whose eyes are open, [has] said, He who heard the words of God, & saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open.

How [nice] are your [tents], O Israel! As the valleys are spread [out], [like] gardens by the river’s side, [like] aloes & cedar trees the Lord has planted, beside the waters.

[The Lord God] shall pour the water out of His buckets & His seed may [have plentiful] waters & their king shall be [greater] than Agag & his kingdom shall be exalted. God brought them [out] of Egypt. They have the strength of [a wild ox].

They shall [devour] the nations of [their] enemies & shall break their bones & pierce them through with [their] arrows. Like a great lion, [they squatted] down. Who shall [wake them] up?

Blessed is the [one who] blesses you & cursed is the [one who] curses you. [King Balaak’s] anger [grew] against Balaam & he [hit] his hands together. Balak said to Balaam, I called you to curse [my] enemies & you have blessed them these 3 times.

Therefore, now flee to [your] home. I had thought to promote you to great honor, but the Lord has kept you from that honor.

Balaam said to Balak, [Didn’t] I tell your messengers you sent to me & [said], If Balak would give me his house full of silver & gold, I [can’t] go beyond the [Lord’s command] to do either good or bad [on my own], but [only say & do] what the Lord [says].

Now, [I’m going back] to my people. Therefore come & I will [tell] you what this people [the Israelites] shall do to your people in the latter days.

[Balaam began speaking] & said, Balaam, [Beor’s] son, the man whose eyes are open [has] said, He [who] has heard the words of God & [who has] knowledge [from] the Most High & saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open [has said],

*I shall see Him, but not now. I shall behold Him, but not [close]. There shall come a Star out of Jacob & a [royal] Scepter shall rise out of Israel [speaking of Jesus] & shall [strike] the corners of Moab & destroy the children [people] of Sheth.

And Edom & Seir shall be [conquered] by his enemies. Israel shall do valiantly. *He [Jesus] shall come out of Jacob & shall have dominion & shall destroy [those] who remain [in] the city.

When [Balaam] looked upon Amalek, [he began to speak] & said, Amalek was the 1st of the nations, but later, he will perish forever.

Balaam looked on the Kenites & [began to speak] & said, Strong is your dwelling place. You put your nest in a rock. [Still] the Kenites [will be destroyed], until Asshur [a.k.a. Ashur] carries [them] away captive.

[Balaam began to say] & said, Alas, [for] who shall live when God does this! Ships shall come from the coast of Chittim & shall afflict Asshur & Eber who shall perish forever. Then Balaam arose & returned to his [home] & Balak went his way.

Israel’s Plague for Worshiping Idols

Numbers 25:1-18        The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

Israel [stayed] in Shittim & the people began to commit [harlotry, being unfaithful by worshiping false gods] with the daughters of Moab. They called the people to the sacrifices of their [false] gods.

And the people [Israelites] did eat & bowed down to their [false] gods.

Israel joined themselves with Baal Peor & the anger of the Lord [grew] against Israel.

The Lord said to Moses, Take all the heads of the people [who worshiped false gods] & hang them in the sun before the Lord, [so] the fierce anger of the Lord may be turned away from Israel.

Moses said to the judges of Israel, Everyone of your men, kill [those who] were joined to [the false god] Baal Peor.

[An Israelite] came & brought a [Midianite] woman in the sight of the congregation of the children [people] of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

When Phinehas, [Eleazar’s] son, the son of Aaron, the priest, saw it, he rose up from the congregation & took a [spear] in his hand. [Phinehas] went after the man of Israel into the tent & thrust [it] through both the man of Israel & into the [woman’s stomach].

So the plague was [stopped] from the children [people] of Israel. [There] were 24,000 [who] died of the plague.

The Lord [spoke] to Moses, saying, Phinehas, [Eleazar’s] son, the son of Aaron, the priest, was zealous for My sake & has turned away My [anger] from the [people] of Israel, [so] I [didn’t] consume them in My jealousy.

[Therefore] give him My covenant [contract] of peace. He & his [descendants] after him, shall have it as a covenant of an everlasting priesthood, because he was zealous for his God & made atonement for the [people] of Israel.

The Israelite man [who] was slain was [named] Zimri, with the [Midianite] woman [named] Cozbi, the daughter of Zur, [who was] a [prince] of a [tribe] in Midian. The Lord [spoke] to Moses & said, [Harass] the Midianites & [attack] them.

For they [harassed] you with their [tricks] & [deceived] you [into worshiping Baal of Peor]. And in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of an Midianite prince, their sister [who] was [killed during] the plague, [because of the Baal of Peor].

Passing on the Inheritance When There is No Son

Numbers 27:1-23                The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

Then the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, came & their names are: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah & Tirzah.

They stood before Moses, Eleazar, the priest, the princes & all the congregation by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. [They said,] Our father died in the wilderness & he [wasn’t a part of] Korah’s company [who] gathered together against the Lord, [but] he had no sons.

Why should the name of my father [disappear] from his family, because he had no [sons]? Therefore, give us a possession among our [father’s] brethren. Moses brought their cause before the Lord.

The Lord [said] to Moses, [Zelophehad’s] daughters [speak correctly]. You shall surely give them a possession [for] an inheritance among their father’s brethren. You shall cause their father’s inheritance to pass on to them.

You shall [say] to the children [people] of Israel, If a man [dies] & [doesn’t] have a son, then you shall cause his inheritance to pass on to his daughter. If he [doesn’t] have a daughter, you shall give his inheritance to his [father’s] brethren.

If he [doesn’t have any] brethren, you shall give it to his next of [kin] of his family & he shall possess it. It shall be a statute of judgment [for] the children [people] of Israel, as the Lord commanded Moses.

The Lord [said] to Moses, [Go] up to Mount Abarim & see the land which I have given to the children [people] of Israel. When you have seen it, you will also be gathered to your people [in death], as Aaron, your brother was.

For you [both] rebelled against My [command] in the Desert of Zin, when the congregation [quarreled] & you failed to sanctify Me as holy, at the waters of Meribah, in Kadesh, before their eyes.

Moses [spoke] to the Lord, saying, Let the Lord God, who gives breath to] all flesh, set a man over the congregation, [who] may go out before them & may go in before them & [leads] them out & [brings] them in, [so] the congregation of the Lord [won’t be like] sheep [without] a shepherd.

The Lord [said] to Moses, Take Joshua [Nun’s] son, a man in whom is the spirit & lay your hand upon him. Set him before Eleazar, the priest & before all the congregation & [put] him [in] charge in their sight.

You shall put some of your honor [authority] upon him, so all the congregation of the [people] of Israel, may [obey him]. He shall stand before Eleazar, the priest, who shall [inquire] for him after the judgment of the Urim before the Lord.

At his word [Joshua, the children [people] of Israel & the whole congregation]  shall go out & at his word, they shall come in with him.

Moses did as the Lord commanded him & took Joshua & set him before Eleazar, the priest & before all the congregation. [Moses] laid his hands upon [Joshua] & [put] him [in] charge, as the Lord commanded, by the hand of Moses.

Vows and Voiding Them

Numbers 30:1-16           The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

Moses [spoke] to the [12] heads of the tribes of the children [people] of Israel, saying, This is [what] the Lord [has] commanded. If a man [makes] a vow to the Lord & with an oath binds himself with a [pledge], he shall not break his word. He shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.

If a [young] woman [who lives with her father] also [makes] a vow to the Lord & binds herself with [her pledge] & her father hears her vow & her father holds his peace, then all her vows shall stand.

But if her father [overruled] her [vow on] the day he heard it; not any of her vows or [her pledges] shall stand & the Lord shall forgive her, because her father [overruled] her.

If she had a husband, when she [made] the [vow] or uttered it & bound herself [by it] & he holds his peace [on] the day he hears it, then her vow & her pledge that she bound herself shall stand.

But if her husband [overruled] her on the day that he heard it, then he makes her vow & pledge that she bound herself, shall be of [no] effect & the Lord will forgive her.

But every vow of a widow or divorced [woman], that they have bound themselves, shall stand.

If [a woman makes a] vow in her husband’s house or bound herself with a [pledge] & her husband heard it & held his peace, her vow & pledge shall stand.

But if her husband made them void on the day he heard them, then her vow or the pledge she uttered & bound her soul, shall not stand, because her husband made them void & the Lord will forgive her.

Every vow [or pledge where she binds herself], her husband may establish it or may make it void. But if her husband [says nothing about it] from day to day, then he establishes her vow & [pledge which she binds herself], because he held his peace on the day he heard them.

But if he in any way makes her [vow & pledge] void after he heard them, he shall bear her [guilt].

These are the statutes , which the Lord commanded Moses, between a man & his wife, between a father & his daughter, [still living in his house].

The Israelites Warred Against the Midianites

Numbers 31:1-54          The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

The Lord [spoke] to Moses, saying, [Punish] the Midianites [for what they did] to the children [people] of Israel. Afterward, you shall be gathered to your people [in death].

Moses [spoke] to the people & [said], Some of you arm yourselves [for] war & go against the Midianites to avenge the Lord, [for leading the Israelites astray to worship false gods].

You shall send 1,000 from every tribe to war. Out of the thousands of [Israelites], 1,000 [were] delivered from [each of the 12] tribes, 12,000 armed for war. Moses sent to [battle] 1,000 from every tribe & Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the priest, with holy [articles] & [signal] trumpets in his hand.

They [fought] against the Midianites, as the Lord commanded Moses & they [killed] all the males. [In addition to the rest of those killed] they [killed Midian’s] kings: Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, Reba, 5 kings of Midian & Balaam [Beor’s] son, with the sword.

The children [people] of Israel took all the [Midianite] women & their little ones captive. They took the spoil of their cattle, all their flocks & all their goods. They burnt all the cities where they [lived] & all their large castles with fire.

They took all the spoil [of] people & animals. They brought the captives, spoils & [plunder] to the camp in the plains in Moab, by [the] Jordan [River] near Jericho, to Moses & Eleazar, the priest & the congregation of the [people] of Israel.

Moses & Eleazar, the priest, & all the [congregation’s] princes, went to meet them [outside] the camp. Moses was [angry] with the officers of the [army] & captains over 1,000’s & over 100’s, that came from battle. Moses [said] to them, Have you [kept] all the women alive?

These [women] caused the children [people] of Israel to [sin] against the Lord, by [Balaam’s] counsel in the matter of Peor [where the Israelites worshiped Baal of Peor, a false god of the Moabites] & [for their choice to go astray] there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord.

Therefore, kill every male [child] & every woman [who has been intimate with] a man. But keep alive all the [female] children for yourselves, [who haven’t been intimate with] a man.

[Anyone who] has killed [or] touched [those] slain, shall [stay outside] the camp 7 days & purify yourselves & your captives on the 3rd & the 7th days. [Also] purify your [clothing] & [everything] made of skins, goat’s hair, or wood.

Eleazar, the priest, said to the men or war [who] went to the battle, This is the [statute] of the law the Lord commanded Moses. You [must] make gold, silver, brass, iron, tin, lead & [everything that can withstand] fire, go through fire & it shall be clean. [Still] it shall be purified with the water of [purification].

All that [can’t withstand] the fire, shall [be made to] go through the water. You shall wash your clothes on the 7th day & you shall be clean. Afterward, you shall be able to come into the camp.

The Lord [spoke] to Moses, saying, You & Eleazar, the priest & the chief fathers of the congregation, take the [total] of the [plunder captured of] both of man & [animals].

Divide [it] into 2 parts between [those who] went out to battle & all the congregation. [Set a tax for] the Lord [from] the men of war [who] went to battle: 1 of [every] 500 [whether it’s of people, cattle, mules] & sheep.

Take it [from] their 1/2 & give it to Eleazar, the priest, as a heave offering [to] the Lord. [From] the [people of Israel’s] 1/2, you shall take 1 of [every] 50 [whether it’s of people, cattle, mules, sheep] & [all types] of [animals] & give them to the Levites [who are in] charge of the tabernacle of the Lord.

Moses & Eleazar, the priest, did as the Lord commanded Moses. [After removing these amounts, the remaining plunder] the men of war [captured] was 670,500 sheep, 72,000 [cattle], 61,000 [mules], 32,000 women [who had not been intimate] with a man.

The 1/2 that was the portion of [the men who] went to war was 337,500 sheep & the Lord’s [portion] of the sheep was 675 sheep. [Of] the 36,000 [cattle], the Lord’s [portion] was 72 [cattle]. [Of] the 30,500 [mules], the Lord’s [portion] was 61 [mules]. [Of] the people were 16,000 & the Lord’s [portion] was 32 [people].

Moses gave the tribute [tax] that was the Lord’s heave offering to Eleazar, the priest, as the Lord commanded Moses. The 1/2 [that] pertained to the congregation of Israel [left after Moses removed the portion from those who went to war] was 337,500 sheep, 36,000 [cattle], 30,500 [mules] 16,000 [people].

Moses took 1 [portion] of 50 [of] both man & [animals] of the [people] of Israel’s 1/2 & gave it to the Levites [who were in charge] of the tabernacle of the Lord, as the Lord commanded Moses.

The officers over 1,000’s of the [army], the captains over 1,000’s, captains over 100’s, came near to Moses & said to [him], Your servants have [counted] the men of war under our [command] & [none are missing].

Therefore, we have brought [as] an [offering] for the Lord [all that] every man has gotten of: jewels [in] gold, chains, bracelets, rings, earrings & [necklaces,] to make atonement for us before the Lord.

Moses & Eleazar, the priest, took the gold & all the [jeweled items from] them. All the gold that was offered to the Lord [from] the captains of 1,000’s & captains of 100’s was 16,750 shekels [of gold], ([because all] the men of war had taken [plunder] for [themselves].)

Moses & Eleazar, the priest, took the gold [from] the captains of 1,000’s & captains of 100’s & brought it into the tabernacle of the congregation for a memorial for the children [people] of Israel before the Lord.

Numbers 32:1-42          The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

Now the children [people] of Reuben & the children [people] of Gad had a very [large] multitude of [livestock]. When they saw that the land of Jazer & Gilead was a place for [livestock], [they] came & [spoke] to Moses, Eleazar, the priest, & the princes of the congregation.

[They said,] The land the Lord [struck] down before the congregation of Israel: Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Shebam, Nebo & Beon, is a land for [livestock] & [we] your servants have [livestock].

[Therefore], if we have found grace in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession & [don’t] bring us over [the] Jordan [River]. Moses said to the [people] of Gad & Reuben, Shall you [just] sit here, [while] your brethren go to war?

[Will] you will discourage the [heart] of the children [people] of Israel from going over into the land the Lord has given them? Your [forefathers] did [this], when I sent them from Kadesh Barnea to [examine] the land.

When they went up into the Valley of Eshcol & saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the [people] of Israel, [to] not go into the land [that] the Lord had given them.

The Lord’s anger [grew then] & He [swore], saying, Surely, none of the men 20 years & above [who] came up out of Egypt, shall see the land [that] I [swore to] Abraham, Isaac & Jacob [a.k.a. Israel], because they [haven’t totally] followed Me , [except for] Caleb [Jephunneh’s] son, the Kenezite & Joshua [Nun’s] son: for they [totally] followed the Lord.

The Lord’s anger [grew] against Israel & He made them wander in the wilderness 40 years, until all [the previous] generation [who] had done evil in the sight of the Lord, [were no longer alive].

[Look] you have risen up in your [forefather’s place], a [group] of sinful men, [making] the Lord [even more angry] toward Israel. If you turn away [from the Lord], He will again leave them in the wilderness & you shall destroy all this people.

They came near [Moses] & said, We will build [pens] here for our [livestock] & cities for our little ones. But we will go armed & ready before the [people] of Israel, until we have brought them into their [own] place & our little ones shall [live] in the fenced cities [protected from] the inhabitants of the land.

We will not return to our houses, until the [people] of Israel [have taken possession] of [their] inheritance. For we [won’t] inherit on [the other] side [of] the Jordan [River with them], because our inheritance [has been given] to us on this side [of the] Jordan [River] & eastward.

Moses said to them, If you will do this thing & all of you will go armed  before the Lord to war, until He has driven out His enemies from before Him & the Lord [has conquered] the land, then afterward, you shall return & be guiltless before the Lord & Israel & this land shall be your possession before the Lord.

But if you [don’t do so], you have sinned against the Lord & be sure your sins will [catch up with you & you will be punished]. Build cities for your little ones  & [pens] for your sheep & do [all that you said you will do].

The [people] of Gad & Reuben said to Moses, Your servants will do as [Moses] [commands]. Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, & all our [livestock], shall be in the cities of Gilead. But [we], your servants, will pass over [the river], every man armed for war, before the Lord to battle, as [Moses says].

Moses commanded Eleazar, the priest, Joshua [Nun’s] son, & the chief fathers of the tribes of Israel, concerning them. Moses said to them, If the [people] of Gad & Reuben pass over the Jordan [River] with you, every man armed [for] battle, before the Lord & the land is [conquered] before you, then you shall give them the land of Gilead [as their] possession.

But if they [won’t] pass over with you armed, they [must accept their possession] with you in the land of Canaan. [Both] the [people] of Gad & Reuben answered, saying, We will do as the Lord has said to your servants.

We will pass over armed before the Lord into the land of Canaan, [so] [we inherit the property] on this side [of the] Jordan [River]. Moses gave to the [people] of Gad, Reuben & 1/2 of the tribe of Manasseh, [Joseph’s] son, the kingdom of Sihon, the [Amorite’s] king, Og, [Beshan’s] king, the land & the cities of [their] coasts & the cities of [the surrounding] land.

The [people] of Gad built Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer, Atroth, Shophan, Jaazer, Jogbehah, Beth Nimrah, Beh Haran. [They built] fenced cities & [pens] for sheep.

The [people] of Reuben built Heshbon, Elealeh, Kirjathaim [a.k.a. Kiriathaim], Nebo, Baal Meon, (their names [have] changed) & Shibmah [a.k.a. Sibmah]. [They] gave other names to the cities [that] they [built].

The children [people] of Machir, [Manasseh’s] son, went to Gilead & [captured] it & [drove out the Amorites that were there]. Moses gave Gilead to Machir [Manasseh’s] son & he [lived in it].

Jair [Manasseh’s] son, [as well, captured Gilead’s] small towns & called them Havoth Jair. Nobah went & [captured] Kenath & [its] villages & called it Nobah, after his own name.

Where the Israelites Camped

Numbers 33:1-56         The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

These are the journeys of the children [people] of Israel, [who] went out of the land of Egypt with their armies under the [authority] of Moses & Aaron. Moses wrote [when they went] out, according to their journeys by the [Lord’s command].

These are their journeys, according to [when they went] out. They [Israelites] departed from Rameses [on] the 15th day of the 1st month, [on the day after] the Passover [when] the children [people] of Israel went out [defiantly] in the sight of all the Egyptians.

The Egyptians buried [every] firstborn [male, the Lord had struck down. The Lord executed judgment, [because of their false] gods. The [Israelites went from] Rameses & pitched [tents] in Succoth.

[They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Etham [at] the edge of the wilderness. [They went from there] & [returned] again to Pi Hahiroth [that] is before Baal Zephon & pitched [tents] before Migdol.

[They went from there] & passed through the [middle] of the sea into the wilderness & went 3 days’ journey in the Wilderness of Etham & pitched [tents] in Marah.

[They went from there] & came [into] Elim [with] 12 fountains of water & 70 palm trees & pitched [tents] in [Elim]. [They went from there] & pitched [tents] by the Red Sea.

[They went from there] & pitched [tents] in the Wilderness of Sin. [They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Dophkah. [They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Alush.

[They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Rephidim, where [there] was no water for the people to drink. [They went from there] & pitched [tents] in the Wilderness of Sinai.

[They went from the desert of Sinai] & pitched [tents] in Kibroth Hattaavah. [They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Hazeroth. [They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Rithmah.

[They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Rimmon Parez. [They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Libnah. [They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Rissah. [They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Kehelathah.

[They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Mount Shapher.  [They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Haradah.   [They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Makheloth. [They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Tahath.

[They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Tarah. [They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Mithcah. [They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Hashmonah. [They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Moseroth.

[They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Bene Jaakan. [They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Hor Hagidgad. [They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Jotbathah. [They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Ebronah.

[They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Ezion Gaber. [They went from there] & pitched [tents] in the Wilderness of Zin, which is Kadesh. [They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Mount Hor [at] the edge of the land of Edom.

Aaron the priest went up into Mount Hor at the command of the Lord & died there on the 40th year after the children [people] of Israel [had] come out of the land of Egypt; [on] the 1st day of the 5th month. Aaron was 123 years old when he died [on] Mount Hor.

King Arad, the Canaanite, [who lived] in the [southern] land of Canaan, heard the children [people] of Israel [were] coming. [They went from Mount Hor] & pitched [tents] in Zalmonah.

[They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Punon. [They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Oboth. [They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Ije Abarim [at] the border of Moab. [They went from Iim] & pitched [tents] in Dibon Gad.

[They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Almon Diblathaim. [They went from there] & pitched [tents] in the Mountains of Abarim, before Nebo.  [They went from there] & pitched [tents] in Plains of Moab by [the] Jordan [River] near Jericho.

They pitched [tents] by Jordan, from Beth Jeshimoth to Abel Shittim in the Plains of Moab. The Lord [spoke] to Moses in the Plains of Moab by [the] Jordan [River] near Jericho, saying, Speak to the children [people] of Israel & say to them,

When you [have] passed over [the] Jordan [River] into the land of Canaan; Then you shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you. [You] shall destroy all their pictures, [molded] images [idols], & [throw] down their high places [where they worship false gods].

You shall [take possession] of the land & [live in it]: for I have given [the land] to you to possess it. You shall divide the land by lot as an inheritance among your families. [To a large tribe], you shall give a [larger] inheritance.

[To a smaller tribe], you shall give a [smaller] inheritance. According to the tribes of your [forefathers], every man shall inherit the place where his lot falls.

But if you [don’t] drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, it shall [happen] that those [who] remain will be [barbs] in your eyes & thorns in your sides & shall [trouble] you in the land [where] you [live]. [Also,] it shall [happen] that I shall do to you [what] I thought to do to them.

The Boundaries of the Promised Land

Numbers 34:1-29          The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, Command the children [people] of Israel & say to them, When you come into the land of Canaan; (this is the land that shall fall as an inheritance to you: Canaan & [its] coasts.)

Your [southern] quarter shall be from the Wilderness of Zin along the [coastal border] of Edom. Your south border shall be the [outter] coast of the Salt Sea [Dead Sea], eastward.

Your border shall turn from the south to the Ascent of Akrabbim & pass on to Zin. Going [on from there] shall be from the south to Kadesh Barnea. [You] shall go on to Hazar Addar & pass on to Azmon.

The border shall [turn from] Azmon to the river of Egypt & going out of it shall be at the sea. As for your western border, you shall have the Great Sea [Mediterranean Sea] for your west border.

This shall be your north border: from the Great Sea [Mediterranean Sea] shall [be in a line to] Mount Hor. From Mount Hor [shall be in a line to] the entrance of Hamath. Going [on from there] the border shall be to Zedad.

The border shall go on to Ziphron. Going [on from there] shall be [to] Hazar Enan & this shall be your north border. You shall [make a line from Hazar Enan to] Shepham.

The [coastal border] shall go down from Shepham to Riblah, on the east side of Ain. The border [will go down] & shall reach the side of the Sea of Chinnereth [Sea of Galilee], eastward.

The border shall go down to [the] Jordan [River] & going [on from there] shall end at the Salt Sea [Dead Sea]. This shall be your land [with its coastal borders around it].

Moses commanded the children [people] of Israel, saying, This is the land [that] you shall inherit by lot, [that] the Lord commanded to give to the 9 1/2 tribes.

For the tribe of the children [people] of Reuben & children [people] of Gad & 1/2 of the tribe of Manasseh, according to the house of their fathers, have received their inheritance.

The 2 1/2 tribes have received their inheritance on this side [of the] Jordan [River], near Jericho, eastward, toward the [sunrise].

The Lord [spoke] to Moses, saying, These are the names of the men [who] shall divide the land to you: Eleazar, the priest, & Joshua, [Nun’s] son. You shall take 1 prince from every tribe, to divide the land [as an] inheritance.

These are the names of the men: Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb, [Jephunneh’s] son. Of the tribe of the children [people] of Simeon, Shemuel, [Ammihud’s] son. Of the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad, [Chislon’s] son.

The prince of the tribe of the [people] of Dan, Bukki, [Jogli’s] son. The prince of the children of Joseph, for the tribe of the [people] of Manasseh, Hanniel, [Ephod’s] son.

The prince of the tribe of the [people] of Ephraim, Kemuel, [Shiphtan’s] son. The prince of the tribe of the [people] of Zebulun, Elizaphan, [Parnach’s] son. The prince of the tribe of the [people] of Issachar, Paltiel, [Azzan’s] son.

The prince of the tribe of the [people] of Asher, Ahihud, [Shelomi’s] son. The prince of the tribe of the [people] of Naphtali, Pedahel, [Ammihud’s] son. The Lord commanded these to divide the inheritance to the children [people] of Israel in the land of Canaan.

Dividing the Land of Canaan

Numbers 35:1-34         The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

The Lord [spoke] to Moses in the plains of Moab by [the] Jordan [River] near Jericho, saying, Command the children [people] of Israel, [so] they give [from] their inheritance to the Levites cities to [live] in & [its] suburbs [around] them.

The [Levites] shall [live] in the cities & [their] suburbs shall be for their [livestock], their goods & all their animals]. The suburbs of the cities shall be from the wall of the city, outward 1,000 cubits [around it].

[On the outside] of the city, you shall measure out 2,000 cubits on the east, south, west & north sides & the city shall be in the [middle]. This shall be the cities’ suburbs [for] the [Levites].

You shall give 6 cities of refuge among the cities you give to the Levites. [These are appointed] for the manslayer to flee [there]. [Additionally,] you shall add 42 cities [to those]. You shall give the Levites [a total of] 48 cities & their suburbs.

The cities that you give [to the Levites are from] the possession of the children [people] of Israel. [Those who] have a [larger possession] shall give [more cities]. [Those who have a smaller possession] shall give [fewer cities].

Everyone shall give cities to the Levites according to his inheritance. The Lord [spoke] to Moses, saying, Say to the children [people] of Israel, When you [go] over [the] Jordan [River] into the land of Canaan, then you shall appoint the cities of refuge for you.

[So the person who killed a man accidentally may flee there]. They shall be cities for refuge from the avenger; [so] the [person who killed a man doesn’t] die, until he [stands] before the congregation in judgment.

Of these cities that you give, you shall have 6 for [a] refuge. You shall give 3 cities on this side of [of] Jordan & 3 cities in the land of Canaan for refuge. These 6 cities shall be a refuge for both the children [people] of Israel, the stranger & [those who stay with you].

[So] everyone [who kills] any person [accidentally] may flee there. [If the person who hits] him with an iron [object], a big [rock], or a hand weapon of wood & he [dies], is a murderer. The murderer shall surely be put to death.

The revenger of blood shall [kill] the murderer, when he meets [up with] him. If [out] of hatred [a person lays in wait to ambush him] & [shoves] him or [hurls something] at him & he [dies], or hits him [with hostility] with his hand & he dies, he shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer.

The revenger of blood shall [kill] the murderer, when he meets [up with] him. But [if the person shoved] him suddenly without [hostility], or [hurled] something upon him without [lying in wait], or [threw any rock on him without seeing him] & he [wasn’t] his enemy & [didn’t seek to harm him]:

Then the congregation shall judge between the [person who killed another] & the revenger of blood according to these judgments. The congregation shall deliver the [person who killed another from] the hand of the revenger of blood.

The congregations shall restore the [person who killed another] to his refuge city [where] he had fled. [The person who killed another] shall [stay in that city until] the death of the high priest, anointed with holy oil.

But if the [person who killed another] shall at any time come out of the border of his refuge city, where he had fled & the revenger of blood finds him outside the refuge [city’s] borders & the revenger of blood kills him, he shall not be guilty for [shedding his] blood.

Because [the person who killed another] should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest, when he [could have returned] to the land of his possession.

These things shall be a statute of judgment [for] you throughout all your generations [wherever you live]. [The person who kills anyone], the murderer shall be put to death [by the testimony] of witnesses.

[No one shall be put to death by the testimony of only 1 witness]. [Also,] you shall [not take any reward in exchange] for the life of a murderer, which is guilty of death. He shall surely be put to death.

You shall [not take any reward in exchange for letting someone who] fled to a refuge city return to [live] in the land [of his possession before] the death of the priest.

You shall not pollute the land where you are. For blood defiles the land. That land shall not be cleansed of the blood that is shed [in it, except] by the blood of [the person who] shed it.

Therefore, [don’t] defile the land which you shall inhabit & [where] I [live]. For I, the Lord, [live] among the children [people] of Israel.

Inheritance Rules for Someone Who Only has Daughters

Numbers 36:1-13           The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers

The chief fathers of the families of Gilead, [who was] the son of Machir, [which was] the son of Manasseh, of the families of the sons of Joseph, came near & [spoke] before Moses & the princes & chief fathers of the children [people] of Israel.

They said, The Lord commanded [you,] my lord to give the land for an inheritance by lot to the children of Israel & [you were also] commanded by the Lord to give the inheritance of Zelophehad, our brother, to his daughters.

If they [become] married to any of the sons of the other tribes of Israel, then their inheritance shall be taken from the inheritance of our fathers & shall be put [with] the inheritance of the tribe [they marry in to].

[It would] be taken from the lot of our inheritance. And when the jubilee of the children [people] of Israel shall be, then shall their inheritance be [added with] the inheritance of the tribe [they marry in to].

So their inheritance shall be taken away from the [total] inheritance of the tribe of our fathers. Moses commanded the children [people] of Israel, according to the word of the Lord, saying, The tribe of the sons of Joseph have said [correctly].

This is the thing [that] the Lord commands concerning the daughters of Zelophehad, saying, Let them marry who they think best, [but] they shall [only marry within] the tribe of their father.

So the inheritance of the [people] of Israel shall not be [moved] from one tribe to [another] tribe. For all the [people] of Israel shall keep to [themselves] the inheritance of the tribe of their fathers.

Every daughter, [who possesses] an inheritance in any tribe of the [people] of Israel, shall be [the] wife of [someone in] her [father’s] tribe. [This way,] the children [people] of Israel, shall [all] enjoy the inheritance of his fathers.

Neither shall the inheritance [move] from 1 tribe to another tribe. But everyone of the tribes of the [people] of Israel, shall keep his own inheritance. [As] the Lord commanded Moses, the [Zelophehad’s] daughters did.

For Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milcah & Noah, [Zelophehad’s] daughters, were married to the sons of their father’s brothers. They were married to the families of the sons of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, & their inheritance remained in the tribe of the family of their father.

These are the commandments & judgments [that] the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses to the children [people] of Israel, in the plains of Moab, by [the] Jordan [River] near Jericho.
