They Have Polluted, [a.k.a. Defiled,] Themselves by Worshiping False gods |
Jeremiah 2:1-37 The Book of Jeremiah [in Smaller Chunks] |
[Additionally,] the Word of the Lord came to me, saying, Go & cry [out] in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, The Lord says [this;] I remember you & the kindness of your youth & the love of your [engagement] when you went after Me in the wilderness, in the land that was not [planted.] |
[Exodus 20:3-6 Thou shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make [for yourselves] any [carved] image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth, [below,] or that is in the water under the earth. |
You shall not bow down yourself to them, nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, Am a Jealous God, visiting the [sin] of the fathers upon the children, [until] the 3rd & 4th generation of those, [who] hate Me & [showing] mercy to 1,000's of [those who] love Me & keep My commandments.] |
Israel was holiness to the Lord & the firstfruits of His increase & all [who] devour him shall offend. [Disaster] shall come upon them, says the Lord. O house of Jacob & all families of the house of Israel, Hear the Word of the Lord. |
The Lord says [this,] What [sin] have your [forefathers] found in Me, that they [have] gone far from Me & have [followed] after [what is] vanity & [have] become vain? [Isaiah 40:17-19 All nations before Him are [like] nothing & they are [considered] to Him less than nothing & vanity. |
Then, to whom will you [say is similar] to God? Or what likeness will you compare Him to? The workman melts [for] a [carved] image & the goldsmith spreads it over with gold & [molds its] silver chains.] |
Neither [did] they say, Where is the Lord, [Who] brought us up out of the land of Egypt, [Who] led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts, pits & drought & the shadow of death, through a land that no man [crossed] through & where no man [lived?] |
And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat [its] fruit & [of its] goodness. But when you entered, you defiled My land & made [My] heritage an abomination. [Numbers 14:8-11 If the Lord [delights] in us, then He will bring us into this land & give it [to] us: a land which flows with milk & honey. |
Only [don’t] rebel against the Lord & neither fear the people of the land; for they are bread for us. Their defense [has] departed from them & the Lord is with us. [Don’t] fear them. But all the congregation [wanted to stone them to death.] |
And the glory of the Lord appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation [in front of] the children [people] of Israel. And the Lord said to Moses, How long will this people provoke Me? How long will it be [before] they believe Me, [after] all the signs, [a.k.a. miracles,] which I have [shown] among them?] |
The priests [didn’t] say, where is the Lord? And [those who] handle the Law, [didn’t know] Me. The pastors also transgressed against Me & the prophets prophesied by Baal & [followed] after things that don’t [benefit.] [Jeremiah 23:13 And I have seen [foolishness] in the prophets of Samaria. They prophesied [about] Baal & caused My people to [go astray.] |
[For what reason] will I [still] plead with you, says the Lord. And I will plead with your children’s children. For [cross] over the [coastal islands] of Chittim & see & send to Kedar. And diligently consider & see if there [is] such a thing [as this?] Has a nation changed their gods, which [still] aren’t gods? |
But My people have changed their glory for [what] doesn’t [benefit.] O you heavens, be astonished at this & be horribly afraid. You [are] very desolate, says the Lord. For My people have committed 2 evils. |
They have [abandoned] Me, the Fountain of Living Waters & have [cut themselves] out cisterns, broken cisterns that can’t hold water. [Revelation 21:6-7 And He said to me, It is done. I am [the] Alpha & [the] Omega, the Beginning & the End. I will give to him [who] is [thirsty from] the Fountain of the Water of Life freely. He [who] overcomes shall inherit all things. And I will be His God & He shall be My son.] |
Is Israel a servant? Is he a homeborn slave? Why is he [plundered?] The young lions roared upon him & yelled. And they made his land, [wastelands] & his cities are burned, without [inhabitants.] Also, the children [people] of Noph & Tahapanes have broken the crown of your head. |
Haven’t you [acquired] this [for] yourself, in that you have [abandoned] the Lord your God, when He led you by the [road?] And now, what [are] you [doing] [on] the [road] of Egypt & [drinking] the waters of Sihor? Or what [are] you to do [on] the [road] of Assyria, [except] drink the waters of the river? |
Your own wickedness shall correct you & your [back sliding] shall [reprimand] you. Therefore, know & see that it is an evil & [unpleasant] thing, that you have [abandoned] the Lord your God & that My fear [respect] isn't in you, says the Lord God of Hosts. |
For [in ancient times,] I have broken your [stocks] & burst your [shackles] & you said, I won’t [sin,] when you wandered & [played] the [unfaithful] harlot upon every high hill & under every green tree. [Isaiah 1:21 How the faithful city [has] become [like] a harlot! It was full of [justice] & righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers.] |
[Still,] I planted you, a noble vine, a [totally righteous] seed. Then, how [have] you turned into the [deteriorating] plant to Me, of a strange vine? For [although] you wash [yourself] with [lye] & [use] much [soap,] still your [sin] is [noted] before Me, says the Lord God. |
How can you say, I am not polluted, [a.k.a. defiled,] I haven’t gone after Baalim? See, your [road] in the valley & know what you have done. You are a swift [camel going across] her [roads.] |
A wild [donkey, accustomed] to the wilderness, that [sniffs] up the wind, in her [desire] & in her [time of mating,] who can turn her away? All [those who] seek her, won’t weary themselves & they shall find her [during] her month. [God] [withheld] your foot from being [without shoes] & your throat from thirst. |
But you said, [Because] I have loved strangers, there is no hope: [none.] And I will go after them. [Deuteronomy 29:2-6 And Moses called to all Israel & said to them, You have seen in the land of Egypt, all that the Lord did [in front of] your eyes to Pharaoh, to all his servants & to all his land. The great [trials that] your eyes have seen, the signs & those great miracles. |
And I have led you 40 years in the wilderness & your clothes [haven’t grown] old upon you, & your shoes [haven’t grown] old upon your [feet.] You haven’t eaten bread & neither have you drunk wine or strong drink, [so] that you might know that I Am the Lord your God.] |
[Like] the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, princes, priests & prophets. [Isaiah 28:7 But also they have [gone astray,] through wine & strong drink & [have] gone [off the path.] The priest & the prophet [have [gone astray] through strong drink & are swallowed up [by] wine. They [have gone astray] & they err in [visions] & stumble in judgment, through strong drink.] |
Saying to a [tree stump,] You are my father & to a [rock,] You have [delivered] me. For they have turned their back to Me & not [turned] their face. But in the time of their trouble, they will say, Arise & save us. But where are your gods that you have made [yourselves?] |
Let them arise, if they can save you in the time of your trouble. O Judah, for your gods are according to the number of your cities. [Why] will you plead with Me? You all have [sinned] against Me, says the Lord. |
I have [struck] your children in vain & they received no correction. Your own sword has devoured your prophets, like a [ravenous] lion [destroys.] [Matthew 23:37-39 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you [who] kill the prophets & stone [those who] are sent to you. |
How often I would have gathered your children together, even [like] a hen gathers her chickens under her wings & you wouldn’t! [Look,] your house is left to you desolate. For I say to you, You shall not see Me, [from now on, until] you shall say, Blessed is He [who] comes in the Name of the Lord.] |
O generation, you, see the Word of the Lord. Have I been [like] a wilderness to Israel? A land of darkness? [For what reason do] My people say, We are lords; we will no [longer] come to You? |
[Deuteronomy 32:15-18 But Jeshurun, [a.k.a. Israel, grew] fat & [rebelled:] you [have grown] fat & grown thick [hearted] & you are covered with [plumpness.] Then, he [abandoned] God, [Who] made him & lightly [respected] the Rock of his Salvation. They provoked Him to jealousy with strange gods & they provoked Him to anger with abominations. |
They sacrificed to [demons,] not to God; to gods whom they [didn’t know.] To new gods that [were new arrivals,] whom your [forefathers didn’t] fear [respect.] And you aren’t mindful of the Rock, [Who fathered] you & you have forgotten God, [Who] formed you.] |
Can a [maiden] forget her ornaments, or a bride her [gown?] Yet, My people have forgotten Me, days without number. [Psalm 106:21-22 They [forgot] God, their Savior, [Who] had done great things in Egypt, wondrous works, [a.k.a. miracles,] in the land of Ham & [terribly awesome] things by the Red Sea.] |
Why [do you trim] [along] your [path] to seek love? Therefore, You have also taught the wicked ones Your ways. Also, [on your robe edges,] is found the [bloodshed] of the [lives] of the poor [who were innocent.] I haven’t found it [through a] secret search, but upon all these [things.] |
Yet you say, Because I am innocent, surely His anger shall turn [away] from me. [Look,] I will plead with you, because you say, I haven’t sinned. [Malachi 2:17 You have [tired] the Lord with your words. [Still,] you say, [In what] have we [tired] Him? When you say, Everyone, [who] does evil is good in the sight of the Lord & He delights in them; or, Where is the God of Justice?] |
Why do you [wander] & gad about, so much & change your [ways?] You shall also be ashamed of Egypt, [like] you were ashamed of Assyria. [Yes,] you shall go [out] from him, [with] your hands upon your head: for the Lord has rejected, [what you confide in] & you shall not [benefit by] them. [2 Samuel 13:19 And Tamar put ashes on her head & tore her garment of [various] colors that was on her & laid her hand on her head & went on, crying.] |
