Jesus Tells Parables to Those Who Persecute Him for Healing on the Sabbath |
Luke 14:1-35 The Gospel According to Luke [in Smaller Chunks] |
And as [Jesus] went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the Sabbath Day, it [happened,] that they watched [Jesus] [closely.] And, [look,] there was a certain man [in front of Jesus, who] had dropsy, [a.k.a. swelling with fluid, often related to heart failure.] |
And Jesus [responded] & [spoke] to the lawyers, & Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath Day? And they held their peace. *And [Jesus] took him, & healed him, & let him go. [Psalm 103:2-4 *Bless the Lord, O my soul, & [don't] forget all His benefits: Who [forgives] all your [sins;] Who [heals] all your diseases; Who [redeems] your life from destruction; Who [crowns] you with loving kindness, & tender mercies.] |
And [Jesus] answered them, saying, Which of you, [who] [has a mule] or an ox fallen into a pit, & won't pull him out on the Sabbath Day, [right away?] And they couldn't answer [any of] these things to Him. |
And [Jesus noticed] how those, [who] were [invited] chose the [best] rooms, & *He put [out] a parable. [Psalm 78:1-4 [Listen,] O My people, to My Law. [Lean] your ears to the Words of My mouth. *I will open My mouth in a parable. I will utter dark sayings of old, [that] we have heard & known, & our [forefathers] have told us. We won't hide them from their children, [declaring] the praises of the Lord, His strength, & His wonderful works, [a.k.a.miracles,] He has done, to the generation to come.] |
Saying to them, When you are [invited by] any man, to a wedding, [don't] sit down in the highest room, [a.k.a. the best place,] lest a man more honorable than you, [is invited by] him. |
And he, [who invited] you [comes] [wth] him & [says] to you, Give this man [the] place, & you begin to take the lowest room with shame. But when you [are invited,] go & sit down in the lowest room. |
[So] that [when] he, [who invited] you [comes,] he may say to you, Friend, go up higher. Then you [shall] have [admiration] in the presence of [those, who] sit at [dinner] with you. For [whoever exalts] himself, shall be [humbled,] & he, [who humbles] himself, shall be exalted. |
[James 4:5-7 Do you think that the Scripture says in vain, The spirit that dwells in us, [lusts, a.k.a. desires,] [which leads] to envy? But [God gives] more grace. [For this reason,] He said, God [resists] the proud, but [gives] grace to the humble. Therefore, [yield] yourselves to God. Resist the devil, & he will flee from you.] |
Then, [Jesus,] also said to him, [who invited] Him, When you [make] a dinner or supper, [don't] call your: friends, brethren, [relatives, or] rich neighbors, lest they also [invite] you [in return,] & a [repayment is] made [to] you. |
But when you [make] a feast, call the: poor, maimed, [a.k.a. disabled,] lame, & the blind. And you [shall] be blessed; for they cannot [repay] you. For you [shall] be [repayed] at the resurrection of the just. [Revelation 7:9 After this, I [looked] & [saw,] a [large] multitude, [that] no man could [count, from] all: nations, [families,] people, & [languages,] stood [in front of] the throne, clothed with white robes, & [with] palms in their hands, before the Lamb.] |
And when one of [those, who] sat at [dinner] with [Jesus,] heard these things, he said to Him, Blessed is he, [who] shall eat bread in the Kingdom of God. Then, [Jesus] said to him, A certain man made a [large] supper, & [invited] many. |
And at supper time, sent his servant to say to [those, who] were [invited,] Come; for many things are now ready. And [in agreement,] they all began to make [excuses.] The 1st said to him, I have bought a piece of [land,] & [it's necessary,] I go & see it. I pray [that] you have me excused. |
And another said, I have bought five [yokes, a.k.a. pairs,] of oxen, & I go to [test] them. I pray [that] you have me excused. And another said, I have married a wife. Therefore, I can't come. |
So that servant came & [declared] these things to the lord. Then, the master of the house, [who was] angry, said to his servant, Go out quickly into the [city's] streets & lanes, & bring in [here] the: poor, maimed, [a.k.a. disabled, lame,] & blind. |
And the servant said, Lord, it is done [like] you [have] commanded, & there [still] is room. And the lord said to the servant, Go out into the highways & hedges. And compel them to come in, [so] that my house may be filled. For I say to you, That none of those men, [who] were [invited,] shall taste of my supper. |
And a [large] multitude went with [Jesus,] there. And [Jesus] turned, & said to them, If any man [comes] to Me, & doesn't hate, [a.k.a. renounce] his: father, mother, wife, children, [brothers,] sisters, & [even] his own life, also, he can't be My disciple. |
[Matthew 10:37 He who loves [his] father or mother more than Me, isn't worthy of Me. And he, [who] loves [his] son or daughter more than Me, isn't worthy of Me.] |
And [whoever] doesn't bear his cross, & [comes] after Me, can't be My disciple. [Matthew 16:25-26 For [whoever shall] save his life, shall lose it. And [whoever] will lose his life for My sake, shall find it.] |
For [who among] you, intending to build a tower, [doesn't] sit down first, & [calculate] the cost, whether he [has] sufficient [money] to finish it? Lest, [perhaps,] after he [has] laid the foundation, & [he] isn't able to finish it, & all [who see] it, begin to mock him, saying, This man began to build, & wasn't able to finish. |
Or what king, [planning] to make war against another king, [doesn't] sit down 1st, & [consults] whether he [is] able to meet him with 10,000 [soldiers,] [who comes] against him with 20,000? Or else, while the other [king] is [still far away,] he [sends a delegation, & asks for] conditions of peace. |
[Also, whoever] of you [doesn't abandon] all he [has] can't be My disciple. Salt is good: but if the salt [has] lost [its flavor, with what] shall it be seasoned? It is neither fit for the land, nor the [garbage dump,] but men [throw] it out. He, [who has] ears to hear, let him hear. |
