Paul is Bitten by a Poisonous Snake on the Island |
Acts 28:1-31 The Acts of the Apostles [in Smaller Chunks] |
And [by the time] they escaped, they [found out] that the island was called Melita, [a.k.a. Malta.] And the [barbarian, a.k.a. uncivilized,] people [demonstrated enormous] kindness [to] us. For they kindled, [a.k.a. started,] a fire, & received, [a.k.a. welcomed,] everyone [of] us, because [it was] [rainy] & cold. |
And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, & laid them on the fire, a viper, [a.k.a. poisonous snake,] came out [because] of the [fire's] heat, & fastened [itself] on [Paul's] hand. |
And when the barbarians saw the venomous [snake] hang off [Paul's] hand, they said among themselves, No doubt, this man is a murderer, & [although] he escaped [from] the sea, [still] vengeance, [a.k.a. retribution, doesn't allow] [him] to live. [Psalm 96:5 For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the Lord made the heavens.] |
And [Paul] shook the [snake] off into the fire, & felt no harm. [However,] they [watched] when [Paul] should have swollen [up,] or fallen down dead suddenly. But after they [watched] a [long time,] & saw no harm come to [Paul,] they changed their minds, & said that [Paul] was a god. |
The chief man, [a.k.a. leader,] of the island, whose name was Publius, received, [a.k.a. welcomed,] us, & courteously lodged us 3 days. In the same quarters were [the] possessions of the [island's leader.] |
And it [happened,] that [Publius'] father lay sick [from] a fever, & a bloody [discharge.] Paul entered in [to him,] & laid his hands on him, & healed him. So, [after] this was done, also others [on] the island, [who] had diseases came, & were healed, who also [showed respect] [to] us with many [honors.] |
And after 3 months, we departed & they [loaded] us with such things as were necessary. We departed in a ship [from] Alexandria, whose [figurehead] was Castor & Pollux, & had wintered in the [island.] |
And landing at Syracuse, we [stayed] there 3 days. And from [there,] we [circled around,] & came to Rhegium. And after 1 day, the South wind blew, & we came to Puteoli, the next day. Where we found brethren, [a.k.a. fellow-believers,] & [we] were [invited to stay] with them 7 days. |
[Then,] we went toward Rome. And from [Puteoli, [a.k.a. a Roman port city,] when the brethren heard [about] us, they came to meet us [from] as far [away] as Appii Forum, & The Three Taverns, [a.k.a. The Three Inns.] When Paul saw, [them,] he thanked God, & [was encouraged.] |
And when we came to Rome, the Centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard, [a.k.a. guard commander,] but Paul was [allowed] to [live] by himself with a soldier, [who] kept, [a.k.a. guarded] him. |
And it [happened,] that after 3 days, Paul called the [leaders] of the Jews together. And when they [had] come together, [Paul] said to them, Men & brethren, [although] I have committed nothing [wrong] against the people, or [the] customs of our [forefathers, still] I was delivered [as a] prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans. |
When they had examined me, & [they] would have let me go, because there was no [reason] [worthy] of death [found] in me. But when the Jews [spoke] against it, I was [forced] to appeal to Caesar; not that I had [wanted] to accuse my nation. Therefore, I have called to see you, & speak with you, for this [reason.] Because I am bound with this chain, for the hope of Israel. [Ephesians 3:1 For this [reason,] I, Paul, [am] the prisoner [for] [my faith in] Jesus Christ, & for you Gentiles.] |
And they said to [Paul,] We [didn't receive] letters from Judaea, [a.k.a. Judea, about] you, & neither did any of the brethren, [a.k.a. other Jews,] who came [declared] or [spoke] of any [wrong] [done by] you. But we desire to hear what you [think, from] you, [about] this sect, that we know is spoken against everywhere. [John 14:6 Jesus [said] to him, I Am the Way, The Truth, & the Life. No man [comes] to the Father, [except] by Me.] |
And when they had [scheduled] a day [for] Paul, many came there to him, into [the place where Paul lodged.] To whom, [Paul] [gave a detailed] [explanation,] & testified [about] the Kingdom of God. [Paul] [persuaded] them [about] Jesus, [from] both: the Law of Moses, & the [books] of the prophets, from morning [until] evening. [Isaiah 49:6 And [God] said, It is a [little] thing that You [should] be My servant, to raise up the tribes of Jacob, & restore the preserved, [a.k.a. saved,] of Israel. I also will give You for a Light to the Gentiles, [so] that You [may] be My Salvation unto the [ends] of the earth.] |
And some believed the things that were spoken, & some [didn't] believe. And when they [didn't] agree among themselves, they [left.] After [what] Paul had [said,] The Holy Ghost, [a.k.a. Holy Spirit, spoke] well, [through] Isaiah, the prophet, to our [forefathers,] saying, Go to this people, & say, Hearing, you shall hear, & shall not understand. And seeing, you shall see, & not perceive, [a.k.a. recognize.] |
For the heart of this people [has grown coarse,] & their ears are [hard] of hearing, & they have closed their eyes; lest they should see with their eyes, & hear with their ears, & understand with their heart, & should be converted, & I should heal them. |
*Therefore, [let] it be known to you, that the Salvation of God is sent to the Gentiles, & they will hear it. [Ephesians 3:5-8 Which in other ages, wasn't made known to the sons of men, as it is now revealed to His Holy apostles & prophets, [though] the Spirit; & by the Gospel, That the Gentiles shall be [fellow-heirs,] & of the same body, & [participants] of His promise in Christ. [Of which,] I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given to me, by the [effective work] of His power. This grace is given unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, [so] that I should preach among the Gentiles, the unsearchable [richness] of Christ.] |
And Paul [lived] 2 whole years in his own [rented] house, & received, [a.k.a. welcomed,] all, [who] came in to him, preaching with all confidence: the Kingdom of God, & teaching those things, [about] the Lord Jesus Christ, & no man [forbid Paul.] |
