Paul Confronts Peter About the Demands on the Gentiles |
Galatians 2:1-21 The Epistle of Paul to the Galatians [in Smaller Chunks] |
Then, after 14 years, I went up again to Jerusalem, with Barnabas, & also took Titus with me. And I went up by, [a.k.a. according to] [the] revelation, & communicated, [a.k.a. shared,] [with] them, that Gospel which I preach among the Gentiles. |
But [I preach] privately to [those, who] [had important] [reputations,] lest I should run [the race well,] or had run [it] in vain. [Philippians 2:16 Holding [out] the Word of Life, [so] that I may rejoice [on] the Day of Christ, [so] that I haven't run [the race] in vain, neither [have I] [labored, a.k.a. worked,] in vain.] |
But being a Greek, [a.k.a. Gentile,] Titus, who was with me, [wasn't] compelled to be circumcised. And because of false brethren, [a.k.a. those who falsely profess to be Christ's believers,] brought in, [without us being aware.] Who came in [secretly] to spy out our liberty, [a.k.a. freedom, that] we have in Christ Jesus, [so] that they might bring us into bondage, [a.k.a. slavery to sin.] |
To whom, we [didn't give] [any] place, [a.k.a. didn't surrender,] by subjection, [a.k.a. to their authority.] No, not [even] for an hour, [so] that the Truth of the Gospel might continue [through] you. [John 14:6 Jesus [said] to him, I Am the Way, the Truth, & the Life. No man [comes] to the Father, [except] by Me.] |
But [about those] who seemed to be somewhat [important,] ([whatever] they were, it [doesn't] matter to me. God [accepts] no man's person, [a.k.a. God doesn't show favoritism regardless of their status.]) |
For [those] in [the] conference, who seemed to be somewhat [important,] added nothing [beneficial] to me. But [it was] [the other way around,] when they saw that the [teaching about the] Gospel [for] the [uncircumcised,] was committed, [a.k.a. appointed] to me, [like] the [teaching about the] Gospel [for] the [circumcised] was [appointed] to Peter. |
(He, [Who worked effectively within] Peter, [for] the apostleship, [a.k.a. ministry, for] the [circumcised] was [also] the same [within] me toward the Gentiles.) [Acts 13:46-49 Then, Paul & Barnabas [grew] bold, & said, It was necessary that the Word of God should 1st have been spoken to you, [a.k.a. Jews.] But [since] you put it [away] from you, & judge yourselves unworthy of Everlasting Life, [look,] we turn to the Gentiles. For the Lord [has] commanded us so, saying, I have [put] you to be a Light [for] the Gentiles, that you [should] be for Salvation to the ends of the earth. And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad & glorified the Word of the Lord. And as many as believed were ordained to Eternal Life. And the Word of the Lord was published, [a.k.a. proclaimed,] throughout all the region.] |
And when James, Cephas, [a.k.a. Simon Peter,] & John, who seemed to be pillars [of the faith in Jesus Christ,] [realized] [that the Lord God's] grace was [also] given to me, they gave the right hands of fellowship to Barnabas & to me. [So,] that we should go to the heathen, [a.k.a. Gentiles,] & they [would go] to [those of] the [circumcision, a.k.a. belief that all had to be circumcised, although they converted to Christianity.] |
Only they [wanted] that we should remember the poor. The same which I was also [eager] to do. But when Peter [had] come to Antioch, I withstood, [a.k.a. stood up to,] him [face] to face, because he was to be blamed, [a.k.a. at fault.] For [prior] [to] that, [some man] came from James, & he [ate] with the Gentiles. But when [those,] [circumcised] [came,] he withdrew & separated himself, fearing [those, who] were of the circumcision. |
And the other Jews [put on false pretenses] with him, [in] that, Barnabas was also carried away, [a.k.a. joined,] with their [hypocrisy.] [Mark 7:6-7 [Jesus] answered & said to them, [Isaiah,] the prophet [has] prophesied well [about] you hypocrites, [like] it is written [in the Scriptures,] This people [honors] Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. [However] they do worship Me in vain with their lips, teaching the commandments of men, for doctrines.] |
But when I saw that they [didn't walk, a.k.a. follow, honestly,] according to the Truth of the Gospel, I said to Peter, [in front of] all [of] them, If being a Jew, you [live according to] the [custom] of [the] Gentiles, & not [like] the Jews do, why [do] you [compel, a.k.a. pressure,] the Gentiles to live [like] the Jews do? |
We, who are Jews by nature, [a.k.a. by birth,] & not [from those sinful] Gentiles, [a.k.a. heathens or unbelievers.] Knowing that a man isn't justified by the works, [a.k.a. deeds] of the Law [of Moses,] but [are justified] by the faith [in] Jesus Christ. |
We even have believed in Jesus Christ, [so] that we might be justified by faith [in] Christ, & not by the works of the Law. For by the words of the Law, no flesh, [a.k.a. humans,] shall be justified. [Galatians 3:11 But it is evident that no man, in the sight of God, is justified by the Law. For: The just shall live by faith.] |
But while we seek to be justified by Christ, if we, ourselves, are also found [to be] sinners, is Christ therefore the minister of sin? God forbid, [a.k.a. Let it not be so.] For if I [rebuild] the things [that] I destroyed, I [would] make myself a transgressor, [a.k.a. sinner.] |
For through the Law, I am dead, [because of sin,] [by] the Law, [so] that I might live [in faith] to God. [Romans 8:2 For the Law of the Spirit [that gives] Life [through] Christ Jesus, [has] made me free from the Law, [because] of sin, & death.] |
I am crucified with Christ, [however] I live. [Still] not I, but Christ [lives within] me. And the life which I now live in the flesh, [as a human,] I live by the faith [in] the Son of God, Who loved me, & gave Himself for me. [Matthew 20:28 Even [like] the Son of Man [didn't] come to be ministered to, but to minister, & to give His Life [as] a Ransom for many.] |
I don't frustrate, [a.k.a. interfere with,] the grace of God. For if righteousness [comes through] the Law, then Christ is dead in vain. [Romans 8:3-4 For what the Law couldn't do, in that it was weak through [worldly] flesh, God [sent] His Own Son, in the likeness of sinful flesh, & for, [a.k.a. because of,] sin, [Jesus Christ,] condemned sin [through His] flesh. [So] that the righteousness of the Law might be fulfilled [through] us, who [don't] walk after, [a.k.a. don't follow according,] [to worldly] flesh, but [according] [to] the [Holy] Spirit.] |
