Paul says to Hold Tight to the Truth About Christ that They've Been Taught |
Titus 1:1-16 The Epistle of Paul to Titus [in Smaller Chunks] |
[From:] Paul, a servant of God, & an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, [a.k.a. chosen,] & acknowledging the Truth, [Who] is [following] Godliness, [a.k.a. filled with the love of God.] [John 14:6 Jesus [said] to him, I Am the Way the Truth, & the Life. No man [comes] to the Father, [except by Me.] |
Which God, [Who] cannot lie, promised [the] hope of eternal life, before the world began. But [has] in due, [a.k.a. specific,] times, manifested, [a.k.a. made visible,] His Word. [John 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, & the Word was with God, & the Word was God. The Same was in the Beginning with God. All things were made by Him. And not anything made, was made without Him.] |
According to God our [Savior's] commandment, [Who] committed, [a.k.a. appointed,] preaching to me. To Titus, [my] own son, [according] [to our] common, [a.k.a. mutual,] faith [in Jesus Christ.] [May you have,] grace, mercy, & peace, from God the Father & the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior. |
I left you in Crete for this [reason, so] that you [should put] the things in order that are [needed,] & ordain, [a.k.a. appoint,] elders in every city, [like] I had appointed you. |
If any [are: without blame;] the husband of 1 wife; & [has] faithful children, & not accused of riot, [a.k.a. public disturbance,] or unruly, [a.k.a. being out of control.] for a bishop must be [without blame, a.k.a. innocent, like] the steward of God; & not selfwilled, [a.k.a. stubborn;] not soon angry; [a.k.a. not easily angered;] not [an alcoholic; not violent;] not [greedy for] filthy [money.] |
But [who] [loves:] hospitality; [loves] good men; & [is:] sober; just, [a.k.a. fair;] holy & temperate, [a.k.a. balanced in all things.] [Who] [holds tight] [to] the faithful, [a.k.a. truthful,] Word [of God,] [like] he [has] been taught, [so] that he may be able, both to exhort, [a.k.a. instruct,] & convince [through] sound doctrine, [a.k.a. teaching,] the gainsayers, [a.k.a. those who contradict] [faith in Jesus Christ.] |
For there are many: unruly, [a.k.a. rebellious;] vain, [a.k.a. conceited,] talkers; & deceivers, [a.k.a. those who would lead people astray,] [from faith in Jesus Christ,] [especially those] of the circumcision, [a.k.a. those who believe all Christians must be circumcised.] |
Whose mouths must be stopped, who [lead] whole [households astray] [from faith in Jesus Christ,] teaching things which they [shouldn't,] for [their own] [financial gain.] |
One of their own [prophets] said, Cretians are [always] liars, evil beasts, & slow [from eating too much.] This witness is true. [For this reason, scold] them sharply, [so] that they may be [strong] in the faith [of Jesus Christ.] Not [paying attention] to Jewish fables, & commandments [from] men, that turn [people astray] from the Truth [about Jesus Christ, our Savior.] [Mark 7:6-7 [Jesus] answered & said to them, [Isaiah has] prophesied well of you hypocrites, [like] it is written [in the Scriptures,] This people [honor] Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. [However,] they do worship Me in vain, teaching the commandments [from] men, for doctrines.] |
To [those who are] pure, all things are pure. But to [those, who] are: defiled, [a.k.a. corrupt,] & unbelieving, nothing is pure, [because] even their mind & conscience [are] defiled. They profess that they know God; but they deny [God;] in works, [a.k.a. deeds or actions;] being abominable; disobedient; & reprobate, [a.k.a. morally corrupt,] to every good [deed.] [1 John 2:4-5 He, [who says,] I know [the Lord God,] & [doesn't keep] His commandments, is a liar, & the Truth, isn't [within] him. But [whoever keeps God's] Word, the love of God is perfected in him, [by this,] we know that we are [within the Lord God.] |
