In the Wilderness of Sinai, the Lord [spoke] to Moses, in the tabernacle, on the 1st day of the 2nd month, in the 2nd year after they left the land of Egypt, saying, Take a [census] of all the congregation of the children [people] of Israel, [by their generations,] [by] their families, by their [father’s houses,] with the [total] number of their names, |
[record] every male [1 by 1,] from 20 years old & [older who] are able to go to war in Israel. You & Aaron shall number them by their armies & with you, there shall be a man [from] every tribe. Each one, the head of his father’s house. |

These were [chosen] from the congregation [& were leaders] of their [father’s] tribes, heads of the 1,000's] in Israel. [Then,] Moses & Aaron took these men [designated] by name & they assembled all the congregation together on the 1st day of the 2nd month. |
And they [all] declared their [ancestry] by their families, by their [father’s] houses, according to the number of names, [men] 20 years old & [older who] were able to go to war [& were recorded 1 by 1.] As the Lord commanded Moses, he numbered [& recorded] them in the Wilderness of Sinai. |

But you shall appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of Testimony & over all the vessels & the things that belong to it. They shall [carry] the tabernacle & all the vessels [of it.] They shall [take care of it] & [camp around] the tabernacle. |
