Elisha, the Lord's Prophet, Dies |
2 Kings 13:1-25 2 Kings [in Smaller Chunks] |
In the 23rd year of Joash, [Ahaziah's] son, [Judah's] king, Jehoahaz, [Jehu's] son, began to [rule] over Israel in Samaria, & [ruled] 17 years. |
[Jehoahaz] did [what] was evil in the sight of the Lord, & followed the sins of Jeroboam, [Nebat's] son, who [caused] Israel to sin, & [Jehoahaz didn't depart] [from them.] [1 Kings 12:28-30 [Upon which,] king [Jeroboam] took counsel, & made 2 calves of gold & said to the [Israelites,] It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem [to sacrifice.] |
[O Israel, [see] your gods [that] brought you up out of the land of Egypt. And [Jeroboam put] the one [gold calf] in BethEl, & the other he put in Dan. And this thing became a sin: for the people went to worship before the one, even to Dan.] |
And the [Lord's] anger [grew] against Israel, & [the Lord God] delivered them into the hand of Hazael, [Syria's] king, & into the hand of BenHadad, [Hazael's] son, all their [lives.] |
And Jehoahaz [sought] the Lord, & the Lord [listened] to him, for [the Lord God] saw the oppression of Israel, because [Syria's] king oppressed them. (And the Lord gave Israel, [someone to deliver them,] so they [were rescued] from [being] under the hand of the Syrians. And the children, [a.k.a. people,] of Israel, [lived] in their tents, [as in the past.] |
[Still,] they [didn't depart] from the sins of the house, [a.k.a. family,] of Jeroboam, who made Israel sin, but walked, [a.k.a. followed, in them,] & also, the grove remained there in Samaria.) |
[1 Kings 16:32-33 And [Ahab put] up an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, [that] he built in Samaria. And Ahab made a grove, & Ahab did more to provoke the Lord God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel that were before him.] |
Neither did [Syria's king] leave [any] of the people [in the army] to Jehoahaz, [except:] 50 horsemen, 10 chariots, & 10,000 foot [soldiers, because] the king of Syria had destroyed them, & made them like the dust [during] threshing [time.] |
Now, aren't the rest of the [actions] of Jehoahaz, & all that he did, & his [strength,] written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? And Jehoahaz [died,] & slept with his [forefathers;] & they buried him in Samaria. |
And [Jehoash, a.k.a. Joash,] his son, [ruled] in his [place.] In the 37th year of Joash, [Judah's] king, Jehoash, [Jehoahaz'] son, began to [rule] over Israel in Samaria, & [ruled] 16 years. |
And [Jehoash] did [what] was evil in the sight of the Lord; & he [didn't depart] from all the sins of Jeroboam, [Nebat's] son, who made Israel sin, but he walked, [a.k.a. followed, in them.] |
And aren't the rest of the [actions] of [Jehoash,] & all that he did, & his [strength with which] he fought against Amaziah, [Judah's] king, written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? |
And [Jehoash] [died,] & slept with his [forefathers,] & Jeroboam sat upon his throne, & [Jehoash] was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel. Now, [prior to the death of Jehoash,] Elisha, [a.k.a. the prophet of the Lord God, had] fallen sick of his [illness of which] he died. |
And [Jehoash, Israel's] king, came down to [Elisha,] & wept over his face, & said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, & the horsemen [of it.] And Elisha said to [Jehoash,] Take [the] bow & arrows. and [Jehoash] took the bow & arrows. |
And [Elisha] said to [Israel's] king, Put your hand on the bow, & he put his hand upon it. And Elisha put his hands upon the king's hands. And [Elisha] said, Open the [East] window, & [he did.] Then, Elisha said, Shoot, & [Jehoash] shot. |
And [Elisha] said, The arrow of the Lord's deliverance, & the arrow of deliverance from Syria: for you [shall attack] the Syrians in Aphek, [until] you have [destroyed] them. |
And [Elisha] said, Take the arrows, & [Jehoash] took them. And [Elisha] said to [Israel's] king, [Strike] the ground [with them.] And [Jehoash struck] [the ground] 3 [times, & stopped.] |
And [Elisha,] the man of God, was [angry] with [Jehoash,] & said, You [should've struck] [the ground] 5 or 6 [times.] Then, [you would] have [attacked] Syria [until] you [had destroyed] it, [but] now, you [shall] [only] [attack] Syria 3 [times.] |
And Elisha died, & they buried him. And the [raiding] bands of Moabites, invaded the land at the [beginning] of the year. And it [happened,] as they were burying a man, that they [saw,] & spied a band of men [coming,] & they [dropped] the man, into the [grave] of Elisha. |
And when the man was let down, & touched the bones of Elisha, [the man] revived, & stood up on his feet. |
But Hazael, [Syria's] king, oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz. And the Lord was gracious to them, & had compassion on them, & [showed] respect to them, because of His covenant, [a.k.a. contract,] with Abraham, Isaac, & Jacob, & wouldn't destroy them, & neither [would] [the Lord God] cast them from His presence. |
So Hazael, [Syria's] king, died; & BenHadad, his son, [ruled] in his [place.] And Jehoash, [Jehoahaz'] son, took [back] the cities out of the hand of BenHadad, [Hazael's] son, [who] had taken [them] [from] the hand of Jehoahaz, his father, [through] war. [Jehoash defeated] BenHadad] 3 times, & recovered the cities of Israel. |
