Details About the Birth of John the Baptist & Jesus Christ |
Luke 1:1-80 The Gospel According to Luke [in Smaller Chunks] |
[Since,] many have taken [it upon themselves] to [produce] a declaration in order [with] those things, [that] are [firmly] believed among us. Even [like] they delivered them to us, [who] were from the beginning & were eyewitnesses, & ministers of the Word. |
[Acts 1:2-3 Until the day, in which [Jesus Christ] was taken up, through the Holy Ghost, [a.k.a. Holy Spirit,] after He had given commandments to the apostles, whom He had chosen. To whom, [Christ,] also [showed] Himself alive, after His [suffering,] by many infallible, [a.k.a. flawless,] proofs. Being seen [by] them 40 days, & speaking of things that [pertained] to the Kingdom of God.] |
It also seemed good to me, having had [a] perfect, [a.k.a. complete,] understanding of all things from the very [beginning.] To write [these] in order, to you most excellent, Theophilus. [So,] that you [might] know the certainty of those things, [in which] you [have] been instructed. |
[During] the days of king Herod of Judaea, [a.k.a Judea,] there was a certain priest, named [Zachariah,] of the course, [a.k.a. division] of Abia. [1 Chronicles 24:3 And David distributed them, both the sons of: Zadok, Eleazar, & Ahimelech of [Ithamar's] sons, according to their offices in their service.] |
And [Zachariah's] wife was [from] the daughters of Aaron, & her name was Elisabeth, [a.k.a. Elizabeth.] And they both were righteous before God, [following blamelessly] in all the commandments & [Laws,] of the Lord. And they had no child, because Elisabeth was barren, [a.k.a. childless,] [since] they both were now, well [advanced] in years. |
And it [happened,] that while [Zachariah carried out] the priest's office, before God, in his [division,] [that] [Zachariah's] lot was to burn incense, according to the custom of the priest's office, when he went into the temple of the Lord. |
And the whole multitude of people were praying [outside, during] the time of incense. And an Angel of the Lord appeared to [Zachariah] there, standing on the right side of the incense altar. And when [Zachariah] saw him, he was troubled, & fear fell upon [Zachariah.] |
But the Angel said to him, [Don't] fear, [Zachariah,] for your wife, Elisabeth, shall bear you a son, & you [shall] call his name John. And you shall have joy & gladness. And many shall rejoice at his birth. For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, & shall [not] drink wine, nor strong drink. |
And even from his mother's womb, he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, [a.k.a. Holy Spirit.] *And [John] shall go before Him, in the spirit & power of [Elijah,] to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, & the disobedient, to the wisdom of the just. To make ready a people prepared for the Lord. |
[Matthew 3:3-6 *For this is he, [who] was spoken of by the prophet [Isaiah,] saying, The voice of one crying [out] in the wilderness, Prepare you the way of the Lord, & make His paths straight. And the same John had his [garment] of camel's hair, & a [leather belt around] his [waist.] |
And [John's] meat, [a.k.a. food,] was locusts & wild honey. Then, Jerusalem, all of Judaea, [a.k.a. Judea,] & all the region [around] Jordan, went out to [John.] And were baptized [by John,] in [the] Jordan [River,] confessing their sins.] |
And [Zachariah] said to the Angel, [By what] shall I know this? For I am an old man, & my wife is well [advanced] in years. And the Angel answering, said to [Zachariah,] I am Gabriel, [who stands] in the presence of God; & am sent to speak to you, to [declare] these glad tidings, [a.k.a. news] [to] you. |
And, [see,] you shall be [mute,] & not able to speak, until the day that these things shall [happen,] because you [didn't believe] my words, [that] shall be fulfilled in their [own time.] And the people waited for [Zachariah,] & [marveled] that he [stayed] so long in the temple. |
And when [Zachariah] came out, he couldn't speak to them. And they [realized] that he had seen a vision in the temple. For [Zachariah motioned] to them, & remained speechless. And it [happened] that, as soon as the days of his [service was finished,] he [left for] his own house. |
And after those days, [Zachariah's] wife, Elisabeth conceived, & hid herself 5 months, saying, The Lord has dealt with me, [like this] [during] the days [in which] He looked on me, to take away my reproach, [a.k.a. disgrace,] among men. |
And the Angel, Gabriel, was sent from God in the 6th month, to a city of Galilee, named Nazareth. *To a virgin [engaged] to a man, whose name was Joseph, [from] the house, [a.k.a. family,] of David. And the virgin's name was Mary. |
[Jeremiah 23:5-6 *[Watch,] the days come, says the Lord, that I will raise to David a righteous Branch, & a King shall [rule] & prosper, & shall execute, [a.k.a. carry out,] judgment & justice [on] earth. *[During] His days, Judah shall be saved, & Israel shall dwell safely. And this is His Name, [by which] He shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.] |
And the Angel came to [Mary,] & said, [Rejoice,] you are highly [favored,] & the Lord is with you. Blessed [are] you among women. And when she saw [the Angel,] she was troubled at his saying. And [pondered] in her mind, what [type] of [greeting] this should be. |
And the Angel said to her, [Don't] fear, Mary. For you [have] found [favor] with God. *And, [watch,] you shall conceive in your womb, & [deliver] a Son, & shall call His Name JESUS. [Isaiah 7:14 *Therefore, the Lord, Himself, shall give you a sign. [Watch,] a virgin shall conceive, & bear a Son, & shall call His Name Immanuel.] |
*He shall be great, & shall be called the Son of the Highest. And the Lord God shall give to Him the throne of His [forefather] David. *And He shall [rule] over the house of Jacob, [a.k.a. Israel,] forever. And there shall be no end of His Kingdom. |
[2 Samuel 7:12-14 *And when your days, [a.k.a. David's days are] fulfilled, & you shall sleep with your [forefathers,] & I will set up your seed, after you, [that shall come from] your [body,] & I will establish His Kingdom. *He shall build a house for My Name, & I will [establish] the throne of His Kingdom forever.] |
Then, Mary said to the Angel, How shall this be, [since] I [haven't known] a man [intimately?] And the Angel answered & said to [Mary,] The Holy Ghost, [a.k.a. Holy Spirit,] shall come upon you, & the power of the Highest shall overshadow you. |
*Therefore, that Holy Thing, [a.k.a. Holy Offspring,] which shall be born [from] you, shall be called the Son of God. [Psalm 2:7 *I will declare the decree: the Lord [has] said to Me, You [are] My Son, & I have begotten, [a.k.a. Fathered] You this day.] |
And, [look,] you cousin Elisabeth, [has] also conceived a son in her old age. And this is the 6th month [of] her [pregnancy,] who was called [childless.] For with God, nothing shall be impossible. [Jeremiah 32:17 Ah, Lord God! [Look,] You made the heaven & the earth by Your great power, & [outstretched] arm, & there is nothing too hard for You.] |
And Mary said, Behold, the handmaid of the Lord. [Let] it be to me, according to your Word. And the Angel departed from her. And [during] those days, Mary arose, & [quickly] went into the hill country, into a city of [Judah,] & entered into the house of [Zachariah] & [greeted] Elisabeth. |
And it [happened,] that when Elisabeth heard [Mary's greeting,] the [baby lept] in her womb. And Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost, [a.k.a. Holy Spirit.] And [Elisabeth spoke] out with a loud voice, & said, Blessed [are] you among women, & blessed is the fruit of your womb. |
And [for what reason] is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For, [look,] as soon as the voice of your [greeting was heard] in [my] ears, the [baby lept] in my womb for joy. And blessed is she, [who] believed: for those things [that] were told to her from the Lord, shall be [accomplished.] |
And Mary said, My soul [magnifies] the Lord. And my spirit [has] rejoiced in God, my [Savior.] For He has regarded the low estate, [a.k.a. status,] of His handmaiden. For, [see,] all generations shall call me blessed, from [now on.] For He, [Who] is mighty, & Holy is His Name, [has] done great things to me. |
And His mercy is on [those, who] fear [respect] Him from generation to generation. He [has demonstrated] strength with His arm. In the imagination of their hearts, He has scattered, [a.k.a. dispersed,] the proud. |
He had put down the mighty from their [thrones,] & exalted, [a.k.a. elevated, those] of low [status.] He [has] filled the hungry with good things, & He [has] sent the rich away empty [a.k.a. hungry.] *[Remembering] His mercy, He has [helped] His servant, Israel. |
[Psalm 98:2-3 *The Lord [has] made His Salvation known. He [has] openly [demonstrated] His righteousness, in the sight of the heathen. He [has] [also] remembered His mercy & His truth toward the house of Israel: & all the ends of the earth have seen the Salvation of our God.] |
*[Like God spoke] to our [forefathers,] to Abraham, & to his seed, [a.k.a. descendants] forever. [Genesis 17:19 *And God said, Sarah, your wife, shall indeed bear a son [to] you. And you shall call his name Isaac. And I will establish My covenant [contract] with him, for an everlasting covenant, & with his seed, [a.k.a. descendants] after him.] |
And Mary [stayed] with [Elisabeth] about 3 months, & returned to her own house. Now, Elisabeth's full time came, that she should be delivered. And she [delivered] a son. And her neighbors & her cousins heard how the Lord had [showed] great mercy upon her; & they rejoiced with her. |
And it [happened,] that on the 8th day, they came to circumcise the child; & they called him [Zachariah,] after the name of his father. And his mother answered & said, [It's] not so; but he shall be called John. And they said to [Elisabeth,] There [are] none of your [relatives] that [are] called by this name. |
And they made signs, [a.k.a. motions, or gestures,] to his father, [about] how [Zachariah] would have him called. And [Zachariah] asked for a writing [tablet,] & wrote, saying, His name is John. And they all [marveled.] And [Zachariah's] mouth was opened & his tongue [loosened] immediately. |
And [Zachariah spoke] & praised God. And fear came on all [who] dwelt [all around] them. And all these sayings were [spread] throughout all the hill country in Judaea, [a.k.a. Judea.] And all [those, who] heard [these,] [stored] them up in their hearts, saying, What [type] of child shall this be! |
And the hand of the Lord was with [John.] *And his father, [Zacharaih,] was filled with the Holy Ghost, [a.k.a. Holy Spirit,] & prophesied, saying, Blessed [is] the Lord God of Israel. For He [has] visited & redeemed His people. |
[Psalm 89:34-37 *I will not break My covenant [contract,] nor alter the thing that [has] gone out of My lips. I will not lie to David, once I have sworn by My Holiness. His Seed shall endure forever, & His throne [like] the sun [in front of] Me. It shall be established forever [like] the moon, & [like] a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.] |
*And [God] [has] raised up [a] horn of Salvation for us in the house of His servant, David. [2 Samuel 22:3-4 *I will trust in Him, the God of my rock. He is my shield, & the horn of my Salvation. My high tower, & my refuge, my [Savior,] & You [saved] me from violence. I will call on the Lord, Who is worthy to be praised, So I shall be saved from [my] enemies.] |
As [God spoke] by the [mouths] of His holy prophets, [who] have [existed] since the world began: *That we should be saved from our enemies, & from the hand of all, [who] hate us, [in order] to perform the mercy promised to our [forefathers,] & to remember His Holy Covenant [contract.] |
[Isaiah 55:3-4 *[Lean] your ear, & come to Me. Hear, & your soul shall live. And I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David. [Look,] I have given Him for a witness to the people, a Leader & a Commander to the people.] |
The oath [that] He [swore] to our [forefather,] Abraham. *That He would grant to us, that we [would] [be] delivered out of the hand of our enemies & might serve Him without fear. [Hebrews 9:13-14 *For if the blood of bulls, & goats, & ashes of a [cow,] & the sprinkling [on] the unclean, [sanctified] to the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, Who through the eternal [Holy] Spirit offered Himself, without spot, [a.k.a. without sin,] to God, [to] purge, [a.k.a. cleanse,] your conscience from dead works, & to serve the Living God?] |
*In holiness, & righteousness before Him, all the days of our life. [Isaiah 40:3-5 *The voice of him, [who] cries [out] in the wilderness, Prepare you the way of the Lord, & make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be [raised,] & every mountain & hill shall be made low. And the crooked [places] shall be made straight, & the rough places [made] [smooth.] |
*And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Highest, for you shall go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways. To give knowledge of Salvation to His people, [through] the remission, [a.k.a. forgiveness,] of their sins. |
Through the tender mercy of our God, [by which] the DaySpring from on high, [has] visited us. *To give light to [those, who] sit in darkness, & in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. |
[Isaiah 9:2 *The people, [who] walked in darkness have seen a great Light. [Those, who] dwell in the land of the shadow of death, the Light [has] shined upon them.] |
And the child grew, & [became] strong in spirit, & was in the deserts [until] the day of his shewing, [a.k.a. appearing] to Israel. [Matthew 3:1-2 *In those days, John the Baptist, came preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, [a.k.a. Judea,] & saying, Repent you: for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand.] |
