Jesus Christ's Birth |
Luke 2:1-52 The Gospel According to Luke [in Smaller Chunks |
And it [happened during] those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. (And when Cyrenius was governor of Syria, this taxing, [a.k.a. a census,] was first made.) |
And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, & into Judaea, [a.k.a. Judea, all the way] to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because [Joseph] was [from] the house & lineage of David:) to be taxed with Mary, his [betrothed] wife, being great with Child. |
[Revelation 22:16 *I, Jesus, have sent [My] Angel to testify these things to you in the churches. I Am [of] the Root & the Offspring of David, & the Bright & Morning Star.] |
And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were [completed,] that [Mary] should [deliver.] *She [delivered] her firstborn Son, & wrapped Him in swaddling clothes, & laid Him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. |
[Isaiah 9:6-7 *For unto us a Child is born, & unto us a Son is given. And the government shall be upon His shoulder. And His Name shall be called: Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. |
*There shall be no end of the increase of His government, & upon the throne of David, & upon His Kingdom, to order, [a.k.a. command] it, & to establish it with judgment & justice from [now on,] even forever. The zeal of the Lord of Hosts will accomplish this.] |
And in the same country, there were shepherds [staying] in the field, keeping watch over their flock [at] night. And, [look,] the Angel of the Lord came upon them, & the glory of the Lord shone [all around] them. And [the shepherds] were [very] afraid. |
And the Angel said to them, [Don't] fear: for, [see,] I bring you good tidings, [a.k.a. Good News,] of great joy, which shall be [for] all people. *For this day, unto you is born a [Savior,] which is Christ the Lord, in the city of David. [Isaiah 11:1-4 *And there shall come forth a Rod out of the stem of Jesse, & a Branch shall grow out of his roots. |
*And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him: the Spirit of wisdom & understanding; the Spirit of [advice & strength;] the Spirit of knowledge & the fear [respect] of the Lord. And shall make Him of [immediate] understanding in the fear [respect] of the Lord. |
And He shall not judge, [according] [to what] [His eyes [see,] & neither [correct according] [to what] [His] ears [hear:] But He shall judge the poor with righteousness, & [repay] the meek, [a.k.a. humble,] of the earth with equity. And He shall [strike] the earth with the rod [in] His mouth, & He shall slay the wicked with the breath of his lips.] |
And this shall be a sign to you. You shall find the [baby] wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly with the Angel, there was a multitude of heavenly [hosts] praising God, & saying, Glory to God in the Highest, & peace, & good will toward men on earth. |
And it [happened,] as the Angels [had] gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, Let's go now, even to Bethlehem, & see this thing, [that has] come to pass, which the Lord [has] made known to us. *And they [hurriedly] came, & found Mary, Joseph, & the [baby] lying in a manger. |
[Micah 5:2 *But you, Bethlehem Ephratah, [although] you [are] little among the 1,000s of Judah, [still] He, [Who] is to be ruler in Israel, shall come out of you, unto Me. Whose goings [out] have been [foretold] from of old, from everlasting.] |
And when they had seen it, they made the saying, [that] was told [to] them [about] this Child, known abroad. And all [those, who] heard it, wondered at those things, [that] were told [to] them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things, & pondered them in her heart. |
And the shepherds returned, glorifying, & praising God for all the things that they had heard & seen, [like] it was told to them. And when 7 days were [completed,] [in order] for the [circumcision] of the Child, His Name was called JESUS, which was [also] [the] [name] [given by] the Angel, before [Jesus] was conceived in the womb. |
And according to the Law of Moses, when the days of [Mary's] purification were [finished,] they brought [Jesus] to Jerusalem, to present Him to the Lord. (As it is written in the Law of the Lord, Every male [who] opens the womb, [a.k.a. the first born male,] shall be called holy to the Lord.) |
And to offer a sacrifice according to [what] is said in the Law of the Lord, A pair of turtle doves, or two young pigeons. And [saw,] a man there [who] was in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, & [he] was just & devout, & the Holy Ghost, [a.k.a. Holy Spirit,] was upon him. |
*And the same man [was] waiting for [Israel's] consolidation, [a.k.a. comfort.] [2 Corinthians 1:3-4 *Blessed [is] God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, & the God of all comfort. Who [comforts] us in all our tribulation, [so] that we may be able to comfort [those, who] are in any trouble, [with] the comfort, [with which] we, ourselves, are comforted [by] God.] |
And it was revealed to [Simeon] by the Holy Ghost, [a.k.a. Holy Spirit,] that he [wouldn't] see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. And by the Spirit, [Simeon] came into the temple. *And when the parents brought in the Child, Jesus, to do for [Jesus, according] to the custom of the Law, |
Then, [Simeon] took up [Jesus] in his arms, & blessed God, & said, Lord, now [let] Your servant now depart in peace, according to Your Word. For [my] eyes have seen Your Salvation. [Psalm 98:3 *He has remembered His mercy, & His Truth toward the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the Salvation of our God.] |
Which You [have] prepared before the face of all people; *A Light to [enlighten] the Gentiles, & the glory of Your people, Israel. [Isaiah 42:6-8 *In righteousness, I, the Lord, have called You, & will hold Your hand. And will keep You, & give You for a Covenant [contract, for] the people, for a Light [to] the Gentiles. |
*To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, & [those, who] sit in darkness, out of the prison house. I Am the Lord. That is My Name; & I will not give My glory to another, & neither [will I give] My praise to [carved] images, [a.k.a. idols.] |
And Joseph, & His mother [marveled,] at those things [that] were spoken [about Jesus.] *And Simeon blessed them, & said to Mary, His mother, [Watch,] this Child is set for the fall & rising again of many in Israel.; and for a sign, which shall be spoken against. |
[Isaiah 53:4-5 *Surely, He has borne our griefs, & carried our sorrows. Still, we didn't [respect] Him, [suffering, struck,] & afflicted [by] God. *But He was wounded for our [sins,] the [discipline for] our peace was upon Him. And with His stripes, [a.k.a. whip marks,] we are healed.] |
*([Yes,] a sword shall pierce through your own soul also,) [so] that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. [Psalm 42:10-11 *The Lord says, You are My witnesses, & My servants, whom I have chosen: [so] that you may know & believe Me, & understand that I Am He. Before Me there was no God formed, & neither shall there be after Me. I, even I, Am the Lord. And beside Me, there is no Savior.] |
And [someone] was there, Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, [from] the tribe of [Asher.] She was of a great age, [a.k.a. advanced in age,] & had lived with [a] husband 7 years from her [virgin] [marriage.] And she was a widow [for] about 84 years. |
[Anna] [didn't depart] from the temple, but served God, with [fasting] & prayers night & day. And in that instant, [Anna came] in, & [also] gave thanks to the Lord. And [spoke] of [the Lord] to all [those, who] looked for redemption in Jerusalem. [Matthew 20:28 *Even [like] the Son of Man [didn't] come to be ministered to, but to minister, & to give His life [as] a Ransom for many.] |
And when they had [accomplished] all things according to the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth. And the Child grew, & [became] strong in spirit, filled with wisdom. And the grace of God was upon Him. |
Now, His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. And when [Jesus] was 12 years old, they went up to Jerusalem, [according] to the custom of the feast. And when they had [finished] the days, as they returned, the child, Jesus, [lingered] behind in Jerusalem. |
And Joseph, & His mother [didn't know about] it. But they went a day's journey, & [thought Jesus,] [was] in [among] [the group.] And they sought [for] [Jesus,] among their [relatives & acquaintances.] And when they [didn't find Jesus,] they [returned] back again to Jerusalem, seeking Him. |
And it [happened,] that after 3 days, they found [Jesus] in the temple, sitting in the [middle] of the doctors, both hearing & asking them questions. And all, [who] heard [Jesus,] were astonished at His understanding & answers. [Matthew 7:28 And it [happened,] when Jesus had [finished] these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine, [a.k.a. teaching.] |
And when they saw [Jesus,] they were [astonished,] & His mother said to Him, Son, why [have] You [behaved] [like] [this to] us? [Look,] Your [earthly] father & I have sought [for] You, sorrowing. And [Jesus] said to them, How is it that you sought Me? [Didn't] you [know] that I must be about My Father's business? |
[John 9:4-5 I must [accomplish the] [work] of Him, [Who] sent Me, while it is day. The night [comes,] when no man can work. As long as I Am in the world, I Am the Light of the world.] |
And they [didn't understand] [what] [Jesus spoke] to them. And [Jesus] went down with them, & came to Nazareth, & was subject to them, [a.k.a. under their authority.] But His mother kept all these sayings in her heart. And Jesus increased in favor with God & man: in wisdom & stature, [a.k.a. height.] |
