Peter Sees a Vision of Previously Unclean Animals Coming Down in a Sheet |
Acts 10:1-48 The Acts of the Apostles [in Smaller Chunks] |
There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a Centurion [from] the [group] called the Italian Band, [a.k.a. Unit.] [Cornelius was] a devout man, & [someone] who feared, [a.k.a. respected,] God, with all his [household,] who gave much alms, [a.k.a. charity,] to the people, & [always] prayed to God. |
[Around] the 9th hour of the day, [Cornelius, clearly] saw in a vision, an Angel of God coming in to him, & saying to him, Cornelius. And when [Cornelius] looked [at the Angel,] he was afraid, & said, What is it [that You will have me do for You,] Lord? |
And [the Angel] said to [Cornelius,] Your prayers, & your [charity,] have come before God for a memorial. And now, send men to Joppa, & call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter. He [lodges] with one, Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the seaside. He shall tell you what you [should] do. |
And when the Angel, [who spoke] to Cornelius [had left, Cornelius] called 2 of his household servants, [plus] a devout soldier of [those] [believers, who] waited on [Cornelius] continually. And when [Cornelius] declared all these things to them, He sent them to Joppa. |
On their journey, the [next day,] as they drew [near] to the city, Peter went up [onto] the housetop, [around] the 6th hour, [a.k.a. noon,] to pray. And [Peter] became very hungry, & would have eaten, but while they made [the meal] ready, [Peter] fell into a trance. |
And [Peter] saw heaven opened, & a certain vessel, [a.k.a. container or pouch, like] it had been a [large] sheet, knit, [a.k.a. joined,] at the 4 corners, & [lowered,] to the earth, & [coming] down to him. [In which,] were all [types] of four footed [animals;] wild beasts; creeping things of the [ground;] & birds of the air. |
And a voice came to [Peter] there, Rise, Peter; kill & eat. But Peter said, [Let it be] not so, Lord. For I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean. And the voice [spoke] to [Peter] again the 2nd time, [Don't] you call common, what God [has] cleansed. This was done, [3 times.] And the vessel was received up into heaven again. |
Now, while Peter doubted [within] himself, what this vision [that] he [saw meant,] the men, [who] were sent from Cornelius had [inquired] [about the location of] Simon's house, & stood [in front of] the gate. |
And [they] called & asked whether Simon, [who] was surnamed Peter, was [staying] there. While Peter thought [about] the vision, the Spirit said to Peter, [See,] 3 men [look for] you. Therefore, arise & get yourself down, & go with them, [without] doubting. For I have sent them. |
Then, Peter went down to the men, [who] were sent from Cornelius to him, & said, [Look,] I'm he, whom you seek. What is the [reason] you [have] come? |
And they said, Cornelius, the Centurion, a just, [a.k.a. honest or righteous,] man, & [someone, who fears, a.k.a. respects,] God, & [has a] good report, [a.k.a. reputation,] among all the [Jews'] nations, was warned by [a] Holy Angel [from] God, to send for you, to [come] to his house, & hear your words. |
Then, [Peter] called them in, & lodged them, [a.k.a. took them in.] And the [next day,] Peter went away with them, & [some] brethren from Joppa, accompanied [Peter.] And the [next day,] they entered into Caesarea. |
And Cornelius waited for them, & had called his [relatives] & [close] friends together. Cornelius met Peter, as [he] was coming in, & fell at his feet, & worshiped him. But Peter [lifted Cornelius] up, saying, Stand up. I am, myself, also a man. [Revelation 19:10 And I, [a.k.a. apostle John,] fell at his feet to worship him, & he said to me, See [that] you [don't] do it. I am your fellow-servant, & of your brethren [who] have the testimony of Jesus: Worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of prophecy.] |
And as [Cornelius] talked with him, [Peter] went in, & found many [who had] come together. And [Peter] said to them, You know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or to come to [someone from] another nation. But God has [demonstrated] [to] me, that I shouldn't call any man common or unclean. [That's why,] I came to you, without [argument,] as soon as I was sent for. |
Therefore, I ask, For what [purpose] have you sent for me? And Cornelius said, Four days ago, I was fasting until this hour. And [in] the 9th hour, [a.k.a. 3 p.m.] I prayed in my house, & [saw] a man in bright clothing [stood in front of] me, [Who] said, Cornelius, your prayer is heard, & your [charity is held] in remembrance, in the sight of God. |
Therefore, send to Joppa, & call Simon, [here,] whose surname is Peter. He is lodged in the house of one, Simon, a tanner, by the seaside. Who, when he [comes] shall speak to you. Therefore, I immediately sent to you. And you [have] done well, that you [have] come. |
Therefore, we are all now present, here before God, to hear all [the] things that God [has] commanded [from] you. Then, Peter opened his mouth, & said, [Truthfully,] I [realize] that God is no respecter of persons, [a.k.a. impartial.] But in every nation, he [who fears, a.k.a. respects, God,] [& does] righteous [works, a.k.a. deeds,] is accepted [by] Him. |
The Word, [that] God, (He is Lord of all;) sent to the children, [a.k.a. people,] of Israel, by Jesus Christ preaching peace. [Romans 10:12 For there is no difference between the Jew & the Greek, [a.k.a. Gentiles,] for the same Lord [is] over all, & is rich to all [who] call upon Him.] |
I say, You know that Word, [that] was [proclaimed] throughout all Judaea, [a.k.a. Judea,] & from Galilee, & began after the baptism that John preached, [about] how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost, [a.k.a Holy Spirit,] & with power. |
*Who went [around] doing good, & healing all, [who] were oppressed [by] the devil. For God was with [Jesus.] [Isaiah 61:1-3 *The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me; because the Lord [has] anointed Me to preach good tidings, [a.k.a Good News,] to the meek, [a.k.a. humble.] He [has] sent Me to [bandage] up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty, [a.k.a. freedom,] to the captives, & the opening of the prison, to [those, who] are bound. *To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, & the day of vengeance of our God; & to comfort all, [who] mourn. *To [comfort those, who] mourn in Zion, & to give them beauty, [instead of] ashes, the oil of joy, [instead of] mourning, the [clothing] of praise, [instead of] the spirit of heaviness. [So] that they might be called [the] Trees of Righteousness, the planting of the Lord, [so] that He might be glorified.] |
And we are witnesses of all that, [that Jesus] did, both in the land of the Jews, & in Jerusalem. Whom they [killed,] & [hung] on a [cross made from a] tree. [Mark 15:20-21 And when they had mocked [Jesus,] they took off the purple from Him, & put His Own clothes on Him, & led Him out to crucify Him. And they [compelled,] one Simon, to [carry Jesus'] cross, who passed by, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander & Rufus.] |
*God raised Him up the 3rd day, & [showed Jesus] openly, not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before God, even us, who [ate & drank] with [Jesus,] after He rose from the dead. [1 Corinthians 15:3-10 *For first, I delivered to you all of [what] I also received, & how Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures. And that [Jesus] was buried, & He rose again the 3rd day, according to the Scriptures. And that [Jesus] was seen [by:] Cephas, & then [by] the 12. After that, [Jesus] was seen at once, [by over] 500 brethren, of whom the greater part, [a.k.a. the majority,] remain [until] this [day,] but some [have] fallen asleep, [a.k.a. died.] After that, [Jesus] was seen [by] James, & then by all the apostles. And last of all, He was seen by me, [a.k.a. Paul, formerly called Saul,] also [like someone] born: out of due time, [a.k.a. like a child past-due.] For I am the least of the apostles, & am not [worthy] to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God, I am what I am; & His grace [that] was bestowed upon me, was not [done] in vain. But I [labored] more abundantly than all [of] them, [still] not I, but the grace of God, which was [within] me.] |
And [Jesus] commanded us to preach to the people, & to testify that it is He, Who was [appointed by] God to be the Judge of the quick & the dead. [John 5:24-27 [Very, truly,] I say to you, He, [who hears] My Word, & [believes in] Him, [Who] sent Me, [has] everlasting Life, & shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto Life. [Very, truly,] I say to you, The hour is coming, & now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, & [those, who] hear shall live. For [like] the Father [has] Life in Himself, so He [has] given to the Son to have Life in Himself. And [has] also given Him authority to [carryout] judgment, because He is the Son of Man.] |
*To give all the prophets [to] [Jesus,] [to] witness, that through His Name, [whoever believes in Him, shall receive remission, [a.k.a. forgiveness,] of sins. [Isaiah 42:1 *[Look,] My servant, Whom I uphold; [My] elect, [a.k.a. Chosen,] in Whom My soul delights. I have put My Spirit upon Him. He shall bring forth judgment, [a.k.a. Justice,] to the Gentiles.] |
While Peter [still spoke,] these Words, the Holy Ghost, [a.k.a. Holy Spirit,] fell on all [those, who] heard the Word. [Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken. And they were filled with the Holy Ghost, [a.k.a. Holy Spirit,] & they [spoke] the Word of God with boldness.] |
And as many as came with Peter & [those] of the circumcision, [who] believed, were astonished, because the gift of the [Holy Spirit,] was also poured out on the Gentiles. For they heard the [Gentiles] speak with tongues, [a.k.a. languages,] & magnify God. |
Then, Peter answered, Can any man forbid water [to be brought,] [so] that these, [who] have received the [Holy Spirit, like] we have, shouldn't be baptised? [Acts 13:45-46 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, & [spoke] against those things Paul [had] spoken, [by:] contradicting & blaspheming [them.] Then, Paul & Barnabas [grew] bold, & said, It was necessary that the Word of God should 1st have been spoken to you. But seeing [that] you put it [away] from [yourselves,] & judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting Life, [look,] we turn to the Gentiles.] |
And [Peter] commanded [they] [were] to be baptized in the Name of the Lord. Then, they prayed for [Peter] to [remain some] days. |
